Right here we are onec again...:-

Here are our requirements, and these requirements are not negotiable - if they are not acceptable - we will not go ahead with this sponsor - PERIOD!

Right - Amoung many motivations, the main reason for this post is that we have been asked to PROVE our power for our kit, and the loss of confidence in our products in general which was caused by Cheuk and Red's assumption - We have agreed to "sponsor" a stage 2 Kit to an individual of OUR choice but have a few criteria that will have to be met first. We will be charging a highly reduced rate for this sponsorship and we will require a list of individuals who are interested in taking part in this endeavour with a list of their vehicle model and existing modifications, we will also require a photograph of the engine bay that should be taken AFTER agreement to part take in this sponsorship.

Other reasons for this sponsorship is for the USA to have a Turbo Kit that can produce the goods like none before them have been able to do - this is mainly for the aftermarket segment!

The NON NEGOTIABLE criteria we stipulate is listed below:-

1) Ballistic Racing S.A will NOT accept any useless and insulting comments and/or un-factual and slandering information from ANYONE, directly or indirectly involved in this sponsorship! If this occurs, we will remove ourseleves from this Forum permanently!

2) Ballistic Racing S.A will make the final choice of who recieves the sponsorship for a stage 2 Kit - NOT NEGOTIABLE!

3) There will be a payment required for this sponsorship stage 2 kit of $2500.00, this will include shipping and WILL NOT INCLUDE INSURANCE! NOT NEGOTIABLE!

4) The sponsored stage 2 kit WILL NOT include ANY optional components normally available with these kits, a few small components nomally included in the stage 2 kit that have no relevance to the main reasons of this sponsorship will be absent from this sponsored kit.

5) The list of Kits contents are included at the end of this post below:-

6) No individual will be considered if the kit cannot be fully and correctly installed as per our installation instructions aswell as run on at least two different make and model dynamometers within 10 days MAXIMUM - NOT NEGOTIABLE!

7) There is NO refund on this sponsorship once completed - NO MATTTER WHAT THE FINAL OUTCOME!

8) Ballistic Racing S.A will only guarantee this sponsorship effort against defect, failure or corrosion of ANY of the included components and workmanship or any combination of the above!

9) The sponsored party MAY NOT re-sell ANY of our sponsored components to ANYONE at any time, before or after installation, until a time frame of no shorter than 12 months has passed from time of shipment from South AFRICA to the USA.

10) All Ballistic Racing S.A components and designs are trademarks of Ballistic Racing S.A (a division of RSB Auto Design S.A) and may not be copied, reproduced or modified in ANY way what so ever!

11) No changes or additions or alterations to ANY our sponsored components may be done what so ever.

12) If this sponsored vehicle is to be installed on an Automatic G/box, we will not include the clutch plate!

13) If the sponsored vehicle is an automatic G/box, the necessary torque converter upgrades will have to be made at the cost and responsibility of the owner of the vehicle!

14) Kit contents in no particular order:-

1 x 4 button Sintered Copper performance clutch Plate - manual G/box only
4 x Pistons 82mm including rings - 8.2 to 1 compression ratio
1 x 63m Down-pipe
All fittings, screws, clamps, T-pieces and mounting hardware
1 x Set of charge Piping colour coded With BOV installed
1 x Gasket set
1 x Garrett/Turbonetics Turbocharger T3/T4 Hybrid 300HP plus Kit (Internal Wastegate)
1 x Intercooler
1 x Link engine management system - pre-programmed
1 x Setrab oil cooler including hose and relocation plate
1 x Set of connetor hose and vacuum piping
1 x Upgraded Fuel Pump
1 x VDO Boost Gauge
1 x Exhaust manifold - Log type
1 x Kingdragon Performance Cone air filter

Please will each individual that is interested in participaing in this sponsorship reply to this post with the above mentioned list of details about his vehicle including year model so that we may progress as soon as possible!

We would particularly like to see the members of the forum who asked for this sponsorship to partake in this effort since we have risen to the challenge that you proposed.

We will hold this effort for a maximum period of 1 week before we start our decision process. If no interested parties have responded within this time starting from today 06/02/2002 we will withdraw this sponsorship completely and decide on further action thereafter.

I hope this effort proves to be what we anticipate it will -

Please accept these few points as part of the above post:-

15) No injectors are included with thesponsorship kit, and the tuning is done for 550cc injectors!

16) There are ten criteria that we will be basing our decision on which is confidential and not public knowledge - once the candidate is chosen, we will reveal these 10 creiteria.

17) Please keep all correspondance strictly on E-mail and not posted on this forum - we would like to maintain a level of confidentiality

E-mail addresses are either

[email protected] or

Thank you!

Any comments or suggestions are more than welcome to be posted on this thread.

Sounds like a reasonable offer and all the rules are acceptable, except one:
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>6) No individual will be considered if the kit cannot be fully and correctly installed as per our installation instructions aswell as run on <b>at least two different make and model dynamometers</b> within 10 days MAXIMUM - NOT NEGOTIABLE!<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote>

Speaking from experience, two different makes and models of chassis dynometer are going to be hard to find in the united states. I'd be willing to guess that 95% of the chassis dynometers in the country are Dynojet parts. Eddy-current, Mustang or Vericom dynos are incredibly difficult to source unless you live in the very few states of the union (California?) where such incredibly high-priced equipment would be put to use.

Otherwise, I would extend the following...

If the winner is within 750 miles of my home (Albuquerque New Mexico) I will personally take two vacation days and a weekend to come TO YOU and help with the install, if so requested. I'll need a few days of advance notice to request the needed days off...

I will bring no tools, I will ONLY bring myself and a few days worth of grungy clothes <img src=/images/forums/snitz/tongue.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>

Ehhhh.... Now wait a minute, how do you have a kit without injectors? That's $400+ in parts that are REQUIRED but not supplied?

All,

I have to state that the criteria is final and we will require two completely different makes and model dynamometers to verify the power readings - this is not for our gain, it is to prove to you all that the dyno is correctly setup and calibrated.

Red - as I have mentioned in numerous of my other posts - If you would like to pay between $300.00 - $350.00 per injector, I would be more than willing to ship these to the candidate aswell - unfortunately in S.AFRICA new injectors are as scarse as HENS teeth and IF you can find any new ones - you will pay your bottom dollar for them - so what we enthusiasts have to do is import them and pay duties and VAT and shipping costs, and by that time the price is blown out the water! The only other source for these injectors is the RX-7 Turbo engine, this is no longer available in our country and Bosch do not stock these units any longer. Sorry about this, but we are stuck between a rock and a hard place in this instance!

If you want an EXCELLENT injector at a very reasonable rate - you can contact CAPA Australia - I think they retail the 550cc injectors for about $180.00 each USD Don't quote me on that, but I THINK that is the price. www.capa.com.au is their web site.

UFB,

The $400 I was quoting was for the set, not each! <img src=/images/forums/snitz/eek.gif width=15 height=15 border=0> I can see why you're not sending them if they're that expensive over there.

Question: Do they need to be low impedance peak-and-hold type, or do they need to be high impedance saturated?

To the winner: The injectors are available from RC Engineering, visit their website for more details. RC makes high quality injectors and they'll only go around $100 each plus shipping, no matter if they are low or high impedance.

Kidd, it's on <img src=/images/forums/snitz/smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>

I'm actually looking into a reliable injector company to sell on the site. Then there would be an additional upgrade option for the turbo kit to include the injectors.

Red, any suggestions other than RC?

I wish, I've been looking for months. NipponDenso makes very good injectors, but they only make about three different "styles" and none fit the Hyundai intake manifold. Greddy makes decent injectors, but they too don't make any that fit the Hyundai manifold.

Blitz also makes injectors that are alright, but they're really bad about returning phone calls so I have no clue if they're making anything that could fit.

Python/Venom injectors are also around, but I'm a little skeptical of their performance and long-term reliability.

I think the general Hyundai crowd is stuck with RC Engineering for the best cost to performance ratio. For around $350 you can get a set of 440cc/min, but the price goes up significantly after you pass the 550cc mark. For a set of 720cc injectors, it's $750 for the set...<img src=/images/forums/snitz/eek.gif width=15 height=15 border=0> Hence why I was looking for an alternative supplier.

No such luck thus far,

Unfortunately, I have a 1.8L engine, or I would sign up for this. However, I will echo Red's offer for the DC area. I will take a day or two off work and put in a weekend or two to help with the installation. I have my own tools (wrenches, sockets, etc., not too many of the funky tools); but don't count on me to provide all the tools.

If you need a reference, ask Ropeman100 on TeamSR; we relo'd my battery and swapped out his intake manifold and TB on a sunny Labor Day afternoon. :) I'm not an pro, but I am competent with the wrenches.

Good luck to whoever takes this on, and good job UFB. This will definitely shed light on all the questions people have with your kit.

UFB, Cool deal!

Red, nice of ya to offer

MST , Sell your asian body to some rich asian cutey :p

If anyone gets the turbo install in the PA/NY/DC/MD area and needs a pair of hands to help, I am free, I about on cutises level, but I think I have a pretty good understanding of how a turbo system works.

UFB,

I will play nice. Now that I've had time to cool off.

I was reading your last post on the LINK. So, will the LINK connect directly through its OWN wires (not factory wiring loom) to the stock crank position sensor, MAP sensor, ignitors, fuel injector harness? If so then this is a STAND ALONE, SEPERATE LOOM system. Sorry if I was mistaken. On your earlier posts you seem to allude that it plugged straight into the stock wiring. Are the wires to the CPS shielded? Does the stock wiring have to be removed? Can you please carify? Will a hole have to be drilled through the firewall?

How large is the outlet from the downpipe from the turbo? Just in case the boys want to go with larger exhaust. (oops, I just saw the 63m, I guess 63 mm piping). Will the LINK be set up for low ohm or high ohm 550cc (Bosch or Denso) injectors and for what fuel will the timing be tune to? 91 AKI? Can the boys make adjustments in the maps?, since each car is different, injector sizes maybe a little off, fuel quality may vary, and honestly... like every other tuner... we also sent our cars out running rich.

These are just some questions that people have not asked. The info should make things a little easier for the install and tune.

This is an interesting offer especially with the more difficult to reach higher powered option.

Three suggestions.. only suggestions.

1. I think that everyone would be satisfied with a dyno run on a Dynojet 248C with a wide band a/f meter. No need for other dynos. The only reason I recommend an a/f curve is to find out how well dialed in the ECU is.

2. Give the guy a little more time... maybe one month. Unless the person is unemployed or is a mechanic (which negates the install portion)... finding time to work on the car will be difficult.

3. Include a set of high performance ignitors with the kit. We have found that under mid to high boost for long periods of time, the stock ignitors will fail.

Guys,
On the subject of injectors. Almost everyone in Korea uses RC injectors eventhough Japan is next door. Good Quality and good price, if Hyundaiperformance buys them maybe he could sell them a little cheaper than the usual quoted rate. I think that turbochargers.com sells 550cc injectors for $80.. this is the best price I have seen outside of jobber rates from RC engineering.

Good Luck.. .

Cheuk

Just got an email from groupbuycenter.com. Looks like they are having a group buy on 440cc and 550cc RC engineering injectors. $71 a piece for the 440cc and $73 a piece for the 550cc. As they say, how low can they go. The link is http://www.groupbuycenter.com/buy.asp?mode=read&row_id=4450, but be forewarned that you need to register... but don't worry, since it's free.

I'll throw out the offer too. If the winner is in the Nevada, Cali, New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona area I will come help you with the install for free. I think I've got a pretty good rep on this board for FI considering I'm the only one that is running a stock motor in a Elantra FI @ 14psi daily and did the Auto to 5 Speed Conversion and was all done by myself.

So if the winner is in those areas hit me up and I will gladly come and Install. I would like to see Chris come out on top on this one.

By the way Chris did that supplier work out for you on the Turbo's?

Cheuk -

This thread is mainly for the sponsorship details - please ask these question in another post, I don't want to confuse things here.

1) Sorry but in our country a dyno is not a dyno is not a dyno ---- each and every dyno is different and for us in South Africa to be satisfied with the results we will unfortunately require at LEAST two dyno runs. I'll give you an example - when we first developed and tested our software upgrade for the Bosch MP9 and MP7E ECU's that the Audi S3 and TT etc use we tested our performance increase at the engine - uncorrected, when we comapred this to a competitors graph it read at least 25% more power and torque, but on the road the competitors vehicle was smoked from standstill to topend! When doing another run on our dyno it showed 19% less power than ours and had many dips and slopes in the torque and power curves!

2) Time - sorry guys we will not allow more time for this sponsorship to be installed, if it takes you longer than 10 days, then you do not qualify for the final decision anyway - we want experienced and able persons to install this kit, that will be able to install it CORRECTLY according to the instructions, every step of the way - this is also why it should not take longer than 10 days to install - the instructions are extremely EASY and take most of the challenge out of the install anyway!

3) The coil packs used on the Hyundai engines are a very popular choice for the 800HP+ street/drag racers in South Africa - these have never failed and this exact model is used by most of the Group N rally teams in S.A aswell.

Hyundai4G63T - I did indeed thanks for the help.

BTW - the injectors we tuned the ECU for are saturated versions, but any 550CC unit should work fine.

It's starting to get nasty in here again, unfortunately.

If you want two totally different dyno TYPES to be used on this potential car, then you have limited your audience to about 10 people in the country. As I said before, 95% of the COUNTRY uses Dynojets -- finding another type of dyno is nearly impossible unless you live in very specific cities on the west coast. Not only that, but the sheer expensive of a company HAVING one of those other types of dynos will make dyno time incredibly expensive for the end-user.

Secondly and lastly, doing ONLY a clutch job on my own Tiburon took an entire day. This is myself AND Joel and a significant amount of experience AND tools. We had a 5hp air compressor with 20 pound tank with a full compliment of air ratches and impact wrenches. We have three full sets of metric sockets -- 1/4" drive, 3/8" drive and 1/2" drive. We have three full sets of metric wrenches -- open end, box end and "ratcheting" end. We have four spanning wrenches, huge numbers of screwdrivers, three torque wrenches, ball-joint pullers and four hydraulic jacks with EIGHT jackstands. It still took us 8 hours to do the clutch change because of little BS problems we found along the way.

If you think someone who's never taken a transmission off a FWD car can do this on their own in 10 days WHILE keeping their normal employment, you're crazy.

I think the rules are getting a little insane at this point, you're actually setting yourSELF up for failure.

I'm not wanting the kit to fail -- I want this kit to work. That's why I'm 100% willing to drive my happy ass out to the winner (saying they're within a day's drive - 750mi) because I WANT it to work. But you're digging your own grave with these requirements...

I don't think there's a single person on this entire forum that will think "less" of the kit if it's dynoed on a normal dynojet. I tell you what -- why don't you have the "winner" of your kit dyno ON THE SAME DYNO before and after the install. That way, even if the dyno is somehow totally whacked out, we can STILL see that "Well this car went from 93 indicated wheel horsepower to 183 indicated wheel horsepower. While 183 isn't what he was claiming, it's obvious that a 100% increase took place and that likely the dyno wasn't reading correctly."

The deal about 10 days may not be quite so bad IF one of the more experienced members of this forum can meet with the winner to help them out. I'm sure the entire install could be done in (a very full) 3 days with TWO people running it. But a single inexperienced person isn't gonna do it.
