i really wanna add a body kit to my tibby whenever it comes out, but ppl's been telling me that it will lower the trade in value, and that it will prolly affect the warranty, and the insurance will be higher... can anyone tell me if that's true???
thanx!

i'm pretty sure it will affect the warranty and it will lower the resale value, but if your gonna put a body kit on the car, u most likely want to keep it for more than 7+ years.

the trade in will decrease, but you can always put the stock bumpers on to trade in and sell the kit seperatley. insurance will not go up b/c of a body kit. and the warranty will just be void on the parts that were exchanged.

Maybe if you trade it in to a dealership, the value would go down. But if you sell it privately, Im sure you could get more then book value because you can say "Yeah, book value is 6 grand, but I have a kit, euro tails, lights, etc....and that was a thousand dollars, so its worth more and that is why Im selling it for 7" As far as warranties go, the warranty would be affected for the body. Powertrain would not be affected, but the corrosion warranty might be. Lets say your body starts to rust....They can say the kit caused that by bolting it on wrong and rubbing paint away (extreme situation, but the worst that could happen).

personally i am of the opion that any money you spend on a car customizing it is money that YOU have lost come time to sell it. you may have paid over $4k in mods and stuff on your car but do not expect to get that back outta the car again.

Some insurance companies will offer a "Show Car Policy" though. I have one through State Farm, as well as my normal full coverage policy. The Show Car Policy is basically for cars that are full all out show cars and if you have any custom work done like body kits, rims, custom paint, etc, etc, etc... Talk to your insurance comapny and see if they offer anything like that for ya. If you end up getting an expensive body kit, and you DO have show car coverage...then it's piece of mind knowing that if anything happens to the kit or whatever, it'll be replaced or fixed. Good luck.

I have 3 policies.

- Normal Full Coverage
- Show Car Coverage
- Audio/Video System Coverage

My monthly insurance is around 155. That's with 2 speeding tickets too. Gotta love the Point & Insurance reduction classes!

progressive insurance will also allow you to add up to $4000 in mods/aftermarket items to your policy for minimal cost.
