My number 2 valve and the possibly the #3 valve is burnt out. So I have a few questions.

#1 How much is this going to run to fix?

#2 If it is alot then I am thinking about a few options.....
a) Motor swap
b) Fixing the car and driving it for
another year or so (stock) til I can
afford a new Tib
c) Selling the car and going without a car
for the next 6mos to a year til I can
afford a new tib.

I live close enough to work that I can walk without a problem. I actually live so close I usually would walk anyway. I have enough money from my xmas bonus that I could do the swap right now. But not enough to put down on a car.

If I decide to do the swap I have already found a shop that can do it. They have done several swaps in other cars but not a Hyundai yet. They realy do seem like they know their sh!t and I do trust them. It will run me $500-$600 labor to have them do it.

If I save to get the New tib I will leave it fairly stock. Suspesion, I/H/E and maybe a few other minor things. If I do the swap then eventially I will also add a Turbo or SC and go all out.

I have alot of thinking to do on this but would be interested in everyone elses feed back too.

Oh yeah the shop that I plan on having do the work if I do the swap is projectD here in the Twin Cities (for all you Mn peeps).
Although they do not have much for Hyundai they seem to be realy cool about working with them. They didn't ven give me a funny look when I told them I drive a Hyundai.

They are also interested in starting to carry stuff for them so I am going to see what I can help them set up.

A valve job is no big deal. Buying a used head off a junked car is a bad idea... I'm too lazy to explain why.

The engine is still fine, the head just needs work.

Just get the head fixed. Buying a used one out of a junk yard and switching it could cause a lot of problems and cost a lot more in labor. Just think. It you get the one you have already worked on then if they screw up the job they have to fix it for free until they get it right. Its worth it just to get it fixed. No need to get a new engine, or pass on your tib man.

I don't buy mechanical parts from a junkyard anyway.

As far as the new engine thing I know it would be alot cheaper to get the valve job done but the original reason I bought the car was to swap the beta motor into it. Then i decided not to and to try and get the new Tib instead in about a year. Now with this happening I am thinking about doing the swap again. My problem is I want to do both but I don't have the money for both.

I am going to either fix the car or swap the engine cause I realy do not want to go carless for a year.

The advantages to doing the engine swap is that the car is paid for and I only have to carry liability insurance. I have quite a few tickets so full coverage on a the new Tib GT will be high for me.

So long story short I am not planning on putting a new engine in the car cause I think I have to. I am thinking on swaping the 2.0ltr Beta motor in the car cause It will be faster the hell.

My friend actually sold his car cause he lived like across the street from work. Why?

Saves money on gas, insurance, repairs. (We figured it out to about $500+ a month cause of it being a '86)

The grocery store is like a 5 min walk down the street, other then that he gets people to give him a ride.

Whats the result? Quite possibly a very large downpayment on his Sonata V6 GLX and quite possibly have the whole car paid off in 2-3 years. ($2,000 straight out from the car).

The thing is, he can do it. If you can weigh in that you can go without a car for 4 monthes, then you will certainly gain a prize in the end.

If you are in the situation I am in and many others. Keep the car, get the valves fixed etc. From what it sounds like since your considering the Tiburon, a swap might not be good, cause I thought (oh this is a cool idea to put N2O and all these mods in my car!! Now I think I wasted around $2,000+)

I will probably do the swap.

I have a lil more research on this before a make my final decision.

I will be getting about a total of $3000 after taxes in bonuses this month and Since that will probably take care of all the stuff I want to do to the accent In my first stage I will probably do it.

i would love to get rid of my car... except, every 3-4 months, we goto utah to see family... and what about when you need to get accross town to say, get a new bed, or buy a fridge?

****, i bet i could save a hella lot more then $500 a month from gas, car payment, insuraence.

but damn it is so fine to drive a car that everyone stares at and usually can't keep up with :)

My friend blew his engine. He has a 1991 CRX all hooked up. HE has a JDM B16A2 in it bored out. He thinks he is pushing around 300hp. Anyways, he still has the stock tranny in it so he was rinning it really high for a while and whe heated a valve so much it bent and the piston drove it up into the head. It sucks for him.
