Can anyone proove this?

Someone quoted me this one time:

" The headder will give the exhaust a really buzzy sound. That "bumblebee" sound everyone hates. So a good resonator will keep that to a minimum. The factory one just won't do. Your muffler shop should be able to recomend one that would suit your application. The bigger the better. It will help keep the exhaust note nice and low. It will also help smooth out the revs. It will help eliminate the nasty popping sound as you coast to a stop."

Is that true?:ermm:

that nasty popping sound is backfire... and a resonator wont change that.
smooth out the revs? no
buzzy sound? no that's your fartcannon.
a good exaust specifically muffler is what keeps your exhaust note 'nice and low'

Its not backfire its called overrun
overrun? whats that? i've only heard of a backfire.
I reckon a header will generally introduce a buzzing sound on these cars. I initially had a 2" full exhaust on my car that was "straight-through" as in, just the factory manifold/cat from the engine and a straight pipe all the way to an aftermarket oval-type muffler at the rear, no "fart can" or anything. Was all fine until I put in a 4-1 header and aftermarket cat underneath (and re-did the piping at 2.25"). Horrible buzzing lol. A "hotdog" type resonator just behind the cat fixed that up though and the buzz is gone.

Btw call me rice but I always enjoyed that "burbling" sound as the engine decelerated...kinda felt like a rally car. :lol: Seems to happen less now with the res on there though.

yes... and overrun is using the engine to slow the car down. which is when back-fire occurs most. (where unburned fuel is tossed into the exhaust.)
Typically, the "farting/buzzing" sound is from exhaust setups that have uneven diameters.

For instance, these are rather crude examples of what sounds you'd get...

2.5" header + 2" straight pipe + 3" Rice Cannon = BrAaAaAaAaaAaAaapPpP!!!
vs.
2.5" header + 2.5" straight pipe + 2.5" Muffler = Bwwoooooopppp!!!
I'd like an extra helping of "Bwwoooooopppp!!!" but hold the "BrAaAaAaAaaAaAaapPpP!!!"

Yeah i searched and searched for a nice sounding setup when i did mine. I'm still iffy on the header situation as funds are low but the 2.25 catback and the dynomax muffler are doing me fine. My buddy who has a loud, but admittedly nice low sounding exhaust bugs me about mine being so quiet but that's the way I wanted it. A nicer tone then stock, a bit more flow and definitely more "sleeper" than a big chrome fartcan.
fart can + crush bent exhaust is the worst sound ever.
Yeah, my system was a 4-1 pacemaker with a 2.25" catback with the dynomax glasspack and the dynomax superturbo muffler. It was pretty low and sounds great inside the car.
cast iron manifold's are thicker and insulate more sound from the exhaust port.

stainless steel header's are somewhat opposite of that and you hear more of what's going on in the engine.
