Price: Around $20,500 configured as above (including chip) for GTI from dealer
Tiburon price = ??? expect starting ~17,500 for FX, around $20,000 loaded
(dunno how much perfomance a chip would give tiburon. but as a natural aspirated car... probably 5-10hp max)

Tiburon:

GTI:

Hyundai's reputation and resale value: SH*T improving rapidly

As seen above, the only way that the tiburon can save itself is price. If priced right, tiburon might be a good deal!

Looks like that review was kind of biased...considering the fact that they obviously didn't do their research on the 2003 Tib...and also mentioning that I haven't even heard of a chip for the 2003. How do they know that there is a chip for it? What's with all of the question marks for the tib? How can you compare when you don't even have half of the specs? Screw that ****...

Well, considering chipping a Tib won't do sh*t, the 1.8T would win. There's nowhere near enough info on the GK yet to be doing this kind of a comparison.

The point of this post is:
if you are going to get a new car around $20,000, is 2003 tiburon a good deal? No bashing is intended. If it get outdueled by other cars, tiburon should lower its price, so those who wants to buy it can get a good deal.

But what we're trying to say is the only definitive answer we have about GK right now is:

A) it will have a 2.7L V6
B) it will have a 6-speed tranny
C) we know what it looks like
D) I know what it sounds like

Other than that, we don't know anything about it. Also, you're comparing a chipped 1.8T (which basically raises the boost and adjusts fuel mapping) and a chipped N/A Tib, which the chipping will do absoluetly nothing.

Wait till it releases, then we can do a fair comparison.

I like both cars. I actually was considering a VW. I will give VW props for the well laid out interior. It has that advantage over the Tiburon. In terms of looks...That is in the eye of the beholder. I like the look of both cars. It depends if you want a hatchback or coupe. Also, GTIs are very expensive. Over here in NJ, they are selling over MSRP because the demand is high on them. If it comes to price, I am positive you can get the Tiburon at a better deal.

I eat Honda Civics for breakfast, Toyota Corollas for lunch, and Volkswagen Jettas for dinner

what they are saying is the damn car isn't even out yet, therefore how can you compare it to anything? and there is no final price yet so your review is ubsurd and retarded. if i could lock this post i would.

VW has ECU upgrade from the FACTORY??? if it is, it wouldn't be a too much of a gain. my friendS have Jettas with UPSOLUTE chip in it, gains approx 50hp and 1 sec off 0~60. but the stock clutch can't hold that power. So i doubt it will be as fast(VW probably won't change the clutch) and believe me, that thing is FAST!
It's comparably priced. If it was me, i would go with hyundai and start hooking it up. I have yet to see a VW with good body kit or any kind of aftermarket stuffs. well some aftermarket stuff but not as much...

With tiburon, $20,000 will cover the car and the loan intersts but with GTI, $20,000 will probably get u the base line and still have to pay for options, taxes, tag, license and loan.

I love my Tib

Duh... If they're front wheel drive, there IS NO DIFFERENTIAL IN THE REAR.

That comparison was completely made up by dualceleron and consisted only of his opinions/speculations. I doubt the tib would only have 180hp with a chip and a 2.7 v6 because it has 140 now with no chip and a 2.0 i4. I think hes going to get the GTI and he just wants to justify the mistake he's gonna make.

Sorry to tell you, but there are many FWD cars that have a limited slip rear differential in it. For example, Acura Integra Type-R, Acura RSX Type-R, Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V.

You're right. They have an LSD, but not a rear LSD as stated in your table .

I'm not gonna block him from the site for saying that the new Tiburon will be slower than a chipped 1.8T.

I will, however, point out any mistakes he makes with his observations, just as I would with any other HP.Com member .

The Golf looks pretty depressing when the correct facts about the GK are in there.

LOL i read somewhere on this site that GK only goes 0-60 at around 7 seconds how can it make the 6.2seconds gti look depressing? LOL.

Of course, unless GK is $3000 cheaper than the GTI, which means around $17500 including ALL the options, then with a supercharger or turbo, it can kick gti's as*(performance-wise that is. Still no heated seats, heated mirrors, honda civic interior, . So like i said, it all depends on tiburon's price. If it's cheap, then cool, else.... why bother. With Hyundai image and resale value, it can only sell well if it's priced right.

There's no need to get pis*ed at me for showing alternatives. Tiburon is built to COMPETE with other car companies' offer. If it can beat other car companies car, well CONGRATULATIONS! If not, then it should lower its price so that people who buy it doesnt get ripped off. If you are so close minded that you dont even want to look at what other car companies offer and will blindly spend money on a hyundai, you are just encouraging hyundai not to make quality products. If its customers just blindly buy them, meaning they can make the worst cars and sell, how is that good for hyundai supporters? That's why competition is good. Encourages Hyundais to make better cars. Anyway i'm not here to start a war, just showing what else is on the market.

WTF??? Close minded?

I'm posting FACTUAL INFORMATION about both sides. I've driven Golfs. To be quite honest, they ****in suck my asshole. A decent car for $20,500 is an RSX or an Integra GSR. Hell, for $20,500 you could almost have gotten a base model GS-T in it's day that would kick the **** out of a GTI any day.

VW has bleak, bland styling and weak motors. Hyundai will have one of the best V6's out on the market. Where's the comparison?
