I have a 2000 elantra and i want to get a cold air intake but im stuck between AEM or INGEN brand what would give me the best performance from the start.

i have the injin on my 2k elantra.. and i love it and never had any problems w/ it

From what I have read, the designs of the AEM and Injen intake systems are very similar, and provide comparable power gains. I have an Injen cold air intake on my Honda.

You will need a 94-97 Honda Accord CAI and you have to cut a space out for the MAF.

The short ram makes more HP than the CAI. Check out the dyno's that were done with the short ram and the CAI:
