I was surfin around the net last night and i found a few guys who just took out the stock air filter box out of their car and attached a cone filter to the end of the pipe. My ? is, this really isn't a CAI but would there be any increases in power or is it just a cosmetic kinda thing?

It looks a little better and will give your engine a bit of a growl. Other than that, there's really nothing gained from it. Possibly a little throttle response.

you were sucking hot air with the air box before anyways. i say use the cone filter. you will notice a diff. almost like the CAI. either way it is minimal CAI or just cone filter are about the same gain. i have tried both and both are close to the same.

did you just lose to an auto 4spd? i think you did...

not neccessarily, the stock box had a resonator that was placed in the front of the engine faced outside the car technically pulling in the cooler air.

Alright well i went and did it, i replaced the stock box and put on a cone filter in its place and it made a noticable difference, however as soon as i get some real money i'm going for the CAI. Thanks for all your help

i think the open element will flow more the the stock airbox, so gains will be had until your motor heats up, then you'll loose power.

so in theory the filter alone will only work in cold weather, so if u live in canada go for it, lol. if u live in florida liek me , dont have a chance in hell of it working for more than 5 minutes.

just put a longer pipe on it, so it sucks in cold air instead of engine air
