Lantra can claim me as a kill.

We raced Friday night on the freeway in Las Vegas. Two runs.
Lantra kicked my Sweet little Princess butt.

I am very proud.
His car is hella fast. A lot faster than it looks.
He has a lot of weight reduction done to his Elantra. Looks pretty sweet too.
Sounds good also. No wonder he revs at every light.

Lantra is an awesome guy. I am proud to call him a friend.

NICE KILL ALEX!

nmap, being the 1.8T has got to be the wierdest car I've been in. I'm used to riding in Honda's and Hyundai's, where you can hear the motor. In the Jetta all I could hear is the turbo. Even at 7,000 RPM I couldn't hear the motor.

yeah. it really is a trip, the engine really really is quiet.

big gains in exhaust note and performance with a large exhaust (3 inch turbo back nets somewhere in the 15 wheel hp range). that's why if i decide to keep the VW, i gota have an exhaust.

btw. even when they do have exhausts, they dont sounds like 4cyls. they sound alot deeper then any 4cyl exhaust that i've heard, but their still quiet (even without a resonator)

oh you think their weird sounding, just wait till you drive one, it makes natural aspiration seem really bizzare. and the hoses that randomly pop off at different locations along the intake/turbo tracts... and the Diverter valve problems.

18t = the bitchy blonde of the VW lineup. when you got her quiet and running good she'll put a smile on your face all night, but all the fun stops when you blow a hose

What problems have you had with it? I'll pass the info along.

His next mods he's planning is an intake and exhaust setup. I'm trying to convince him to leave his car stock looking at slap on the Greddy turbo upgrade kit .

greddy doesn't have an upgrade kit for the 18t yet.

basically since i've chipped i just have random leaks after the turbo, all you need to do is put the car back up on jackstands and tighten down the hoses.

if he's not chipped (ecu upgrade), that should definately be his first mod

if he wants to go all out with speed, forced motion makes a great exhaust (theres a member in the 18t forum who dyno'd 213hp to the wheels with just a chip/intake/forced motion exhaust). that guy also runs 13.80's on street tires and no nos if i remember right.

anyway. if he's really interested in upgrades either drop me a line, or go to the Vwvortex 1.8t forums (their pretty good, but theres quite a bit of misinformation on them)

btw. no matter what a company says, a BOV isn't good on these cars. they sound really really badass on the 18t (i used to have my diverter valve purging to the atmosphere, suprised the hell out of alot of people. PSSSSHT!). but in the long run you end up losing HP, and it's really hard on your throttle body. email me if you want some more details.

oh, and the stock diverter valve is total ass. (diverter valve = blow off valve that vents back into the intake insted of the atmosphere). it leaks after a period of time, even if your stock. if your friend is having surging problems or just a general lack of pull, first thing i would look at is the diverter valve (haha. take that thing off and you'll know what i mean, it's so ghetto)

Heh, that's what you think .

They released it at SEMA this year. I have pics of it I'll upload later.

if it's on a red/orange GTI then the last i heard it's still in development. that's Greg Longies car (the same guy who has the black jetta putting down 213. and the owner and designer of Forced Motion exhausts) and i would be a LITTLE leary if that really was the kit, if it is then it's only been in development for a month or so, Charles Greddy came on VWVortex asking for 18t donor cars about then, then greg bought a new car just for them to work on.

anyway. if that's the kit i have no doubts about the performance, but i would be a tiny bit worried about long term reliability (wonder how many miles they've put on that kit if it's only been on the car for a month)

but post the pics! this one has fallen through the cracks in the 18t forum, Greg is keeping his mouth closed about it, i'd be interested to hear what you have to say about it

btw. any you suckas coem to utah a want to see what a 18t is about, i might just let you drive

btw. great call on keeping your friend stock looking. that's what i'm doing if i keep the car. no body mods (except black color matched VW badges (it looks mean on black imo)) some light rims (SSR competition in gun metal) and tint. those are the only looks mods i'm going to do. i've got a friend into the whole bodykit thing, it's ok i guess, but bleh. no fun in that. if you want i can post a small pic if i can find it, it looks really good and wins shows, but it dont go fast, and with the VR6 it really plows through corners (front end heavy)

Yeah, they told me it was still under development, but everything was hooked up right . They didn't have an ETA of when it'll be done unfortunately.

What forums are you on? I'll come to your forums after work and post the pics I took of it. I got about 5 or 6 pictures showing the turbo, the BOV, the intercooler, etc...
