Last week I asked you the same question on AIM and it wasn't black at that time. There are several names for this: "Black Tarry Stool" and "Melena".

Melena: is usually do to bleeding from the upper gastrointestinal tract and indicates that more than 500 mL of blood has been lost over a 24 hour peroid. This is not a good thing!

Here are a list of things that can cause Melena: bismuth (pepto Bismo), iron, and spinach.
If you've eaten or taken any of them they can cause it.

There are many sources in the upper GI that can cause this. Some not so bad and others very bad.

2 choices: Call you MD's office if he's still in and tell him you have a "black tarry stool" and what needs to be done and or if he isn't in call the emergency room ask to speak to a nurse or doctor and tell them the same thing. Ask if you need to go into the Emergency Room or not. They will know the appropriate thing to do.

Either way you need checked ASAP!!!
