I read a post about installing a breather. I was wondering how much does it help and exactly what do you get out of it?

it helps exactly ZERO!
nada nothing.
It looks nice. It eliminates the hose coming fromt he top of the crankcase. I have 2. one on the engine and one on the CAI.
No use for either of them. They act to filter debris that should try to enter the top of the engine.

If you're N/A, it does nothing. If you're running some type of power-adder, it is necessary. If you're running a turbo or centrifigul blower, you don't want any pressurized air going through the vent hose and into the crankcase. You'll need to block-off the hole on your intake and use a breather filter on the head because the crankcase needs to breathe. If you're running nitrous, unless you have a direct-port system, you're probably spraying into your intake. You don't want to risk any nitrous getting into your crancase because it's corrosive and could lead to an oil fire.
