Hey... I'm doing the doorlight mod that was posted on SR. I'm taking pictures from start to finish so Rob can use it in one of his mod guides... if anyone has any input that I might need, that would be greatful. I have all the pieces, and I'm ready to go. I am not going the hyper white/filter paper way right now. That's later. Right now is regular diffuser with a green bulb. If thats not good enough, I'm LIGHTLY painting the diffuser and putting the stock lights back. Then I might try hyper with my painted diffuser. Who knows.. right? Just throwing in my $0.02.

Here is what I've done so far:

I bought that from Home Depot for $4.75.

Thats the piece I cut out of it.. I used wire cutters first. Remember, this is rough draft right now. I drew an outline with a permanent marker.. about 1/4 away from the red lens... just so when I cut it, there is no marker left, and it fits plush. Since I used wire cutters, its not very plush, like my final one will be when I use a dremel. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Green lights for the doors first.. I'll wait till "night time" to take the colored pictures..

Anyways, thats what I have for right now.

MORE PHOTOS:

This is the green light without a cover, strange how my camera made it seem blue, but oh well.. :)

This is the green bulb with the clear diffuser over it. It doesnt look half bad, but in person, you can see the bulb.... doesnt look "finished."

Here is the stock light back in with the diffuser painted.. this pic also came out, like a weird looking color, but I did some editting to it to get the color it look like...

Again.. will keep you posted [no pun intended] about this mod and every step I take. The diffuser doesnt fit perfectly at all, and its still the rough. Next I think I'll try to dremel a piece out and use a green filter for it. I hope you enjoy. Any suggestion, please... I'm all ears!!!

The only concern I would have is that if you are using clear plastic... You will be able to see the bulb when the light is out as well as on. Somehow if you could frost the plastic it would work better.

Think of a lightbulb. One that is clear and one that is frosted. The clear one is very bright where the filament is. The frosted one gives a more even light.

What do you think?
Am I making sense?

Yeah, I said that in my post... that you could see the bulb and it looked unfinished... so I painted the diffuser lightly... :) It looked better.. more finished

Ditto!
I've already taken the red ones out,... have to find some time to do it,...
What did you use for color? Just the bulb? OR did you paint it as well?

Thanks

Kai: First I used a green colored 940 bulb... then I also painted the bulb. You could use any paint... since its not gonna get hot enough, you can use vinyl if you'd wish. I only had my high temp paint on me, green. So I used it for testing purposes. I would recommend painting the diffuser or getting a colored filter, because with the clear diffuser and the green bulb, you can see the bulb and it looks unfinished, like sh!t.
