I originally posted this as a response to a question under a different thread. I am not claimming to be an expert but these are helpfull terms. Feel free to post anything that I missed. BTW Summit racing is a good resource for this info. No one wants to look like a chump. We could use some info on staging as well.
"There are basicly two measurements for drag racing. The first is E.T. That stands for ELAPSED TIME. That is the time elapsed between the green light and when you cross the finish line. This is really how the winner is determined. The first to cross the finish line will have the lowest elapsed time. E.T. is a effected by your reaction time and thus can be improved by it.
Your 60ft, 1/8th, and 1/4 mile times are measured from when you break a light beam at the start line to those specific distances. That is why simply making your car faster will not always when you races. The top divers have skills. They are not just hanging on for the ride.
To learn more about the "art" of drag racing look at some of the old school mags that cover hot rodding or such. A great website to look at many magazines go to GR8RIDE.com."
Remeber that those Old school mags are full of great tricks and tips for ALL cars. Don't forget that they have been covering this stuff since your parents learned to drive.
