Ok, I have a 2000 Elantra. I bought it with only 24 miles on it from the dealer.
There were problems, but I just considered it to be the breaking in period. #1. The really stupid thing, the horn didnt work. Test the dang thing before you go home ok? I took it back and they fixed it in like 2 seconds. #2. Some stupid sensor thing, can't remember what one it was, broke after a month. Took a while to replace....but after 3 months of breaking it in, he was working like a dream. ;)

The only problem I had with my 98 Elantra was after a year...some corroded electrical harness that made the car sputter when I'm driving at high speeds and lose power whenever I make sudden stops. They fixed it at no charge and that was it... no more probs up to this date.

I had 2 small problems with my car. One of the brake rotors was warped and needed resurfacing... caused the brakes to viabrate while driving at high speeds. In/out of the dealer in under 1 hour. Second minor problem was that a sparkplug misfired and left a carbon trail behind causing the engine not to start. After awhile, it finally started, but the engine light came on. Brought it in. Put new spark plugs in.

Thats it! 15,000 miles and runs perfect

You have 15,000 miles?
I just broke 23,000 miles.
You don't drive much do you???
When did you get yours? I got mine in October of '99. It had been on the lot for 2Days. It was all mine!

well, thats why IR2. I got mine late April of 2000. Thats a 6 month difference and at least 7000 miles or so...so we drive about the same. I dont know how long mine was sitting on the lot for, but I wheeled and dealed for 5 hours so I got the car mad cheap. $10,900. The salesman got fired a week later...I guess giving too many good deals out. The 5spds are more negotiable because everyone is lazy and gets autotragic

Now, if you don't think I drive...see about Rob. He has 15,000 miles on his 1999 Accent. J/K Rob, but I need back-up. lol. Some girl I work with got hers 2 months before I did. She has 30,000 miles on hers. I said to her "what do you do, drive around in circles?" She started yelling at me, but thats what happens when your parents pay for it all and you dont have to work...nothin better to do!

the reason that i asked is because with my 96 i have had a new tranny,ex-manifold,they had to shave something off of the winshield wiper contacts (they wouldnt work when it rained and it was cold out)altinator, charcol canister, pvc valve, waterpump, spark plugs+ wires (engine light was on)tierod end, speedometer cable, throttle position switch, and about 6 wheel studs i think thats all not mad though because hyundai`s extended waranty is the best all they ask for was my fifty dollars.

Yeah, thats what happened to me. a sparkplug misfired leaveing a carbon trail that caused it not to start. They put Champions in Hyundais, but Hyundais dont work well with Champions, so they took them out and put in NGKs. Eventually, I am going to take those out and get Bosch plugs with the 4 electrode tip.

wubee, I hope Hyundai made good on reimburseing you for your stereo being stolen. Thats not cool. I have a system in mine and I would have raised hell on it, especially if there were no signs of break-in on the car, whether the alarm didnt go off or no prying of the trunk. Obviously someone used the keys and opened the trunk and took the kicker box out and opened the door and took the head unit out

I've got u all beat... I drive for Coca-cola as a Merchandizer... I have 42K Miles on my 2000 Elantra...I've had it for over a 1yr and 1/2. My car runs like a champ... Only problem I had was a crappy battery discharged after about a 1 Year and 1/2. Other then that... I do regular maintance, and just switched to platinum bosch plugs.. and it runs like a champ like I said before, only minor other accessory problem I had was and still am, trying to find rims that fit over that god damn.. clip/screw on the caliper... Other then that... It's All Good!
