Since I do not have a tachometer in my Elantra I just bought I am curious
what the engine redlines at. Also what is the rpm at 65 m.p.h.? It is a 5
speed. Is it easy to put a tachometer in it?

I gather from other discussions that the rev limiter holds the engine rpm at or below the redline.

the red line that is painted on the 2001 elantra or the 2.0 beta is 6,500 but the limiter acually cuts in at about 6,250 i found that out when i was racing someone and thought i had another 250 RPM didnt much matter cuss i was already at the top and i shifted right after the limiter kicked in

Don't play with the rev limiter on them, yes loose the VSS for top seppd but leave the limiter in .

I posted on Strategy and Technique 101 about my "experience" early this morning with my rev-limiter. I also bounced off it at what seemed like
6200 or 6300. Fortunately it didn't
happen in the middle of a stoplight
get-away...like yesterday, when a
driver of a Saturn Sc1? (it HAD to be the 110 hp version) insisted on
a race. He got one, and lost by three car lengths. The Sc2 has more horsepower, 125 I think, and should have been right with me all the way.
His engine was REALLY winding, but I pulled ahead after shifting at into 2nd @ 6 grand and stayed there. I waved him away when He attempted a rematch...
the result was a forgone conclusion
anyway. Anyhoo, yeah, the limiter seems to kick in before redline..at least in my car.
