You might be right about the above problem being the cd player, but saying that no matter how damaged, it will play...that's just plain wrong.
Once a cd gets too scratched it won't play at all because the index can be ruined. Not only that but certain tracks, if recorded (usually burned cd's) wrong, then it will trigger an error code due to timing not matching up with track info, etc.
