I was looking on Edmunds.com reading up on some articles on the 2001 Elantra, Tiburon and a few other models (all got great reviews). So how did I pick this article up...Well, the Hummer and Elantra were in the same review! It was called "Trick or Treat" They picked 5 cars that astonished the reviewers rating them either a "trick" or "treat" to drive. The elantra was rated as a treat and they loved it. The hummer was a "trick", and hated it...But their review was pretty funny. Here it is.

You would think that driving a Hummer would be the treat of a lifetime, muses our associate editor. Unfortunately, it's more like a nightmare that leaves you shaking in a cold sweat. For starters, just getting in the thing involves some serious twisting and turning, but we've only just begun. Once you're situated, you realize that the interior is a disaster. The controls are all over the place and the numerous gauges are hard to read. Then there's the gigantic hump between the driver and passenger seat that provides no storage and makes you feel like you're in a different time zone than your passenger. Just when you think it couldn't get any worse, you start it up and experience the roaring cacophony of the anemic 6.5-liter diesel V8 (with 195 horses!) under the hood. Press the gas and this thing practically laughs at you. Constant attention is required as the numb steering barely lets you know you're drifting until you actually feel the pulsing of the reflector bumps on the highway. Push the brakes and you start to wonder if it actually has any. Once you do manage to haul the lumbering beast down to a stop, you're treated to an unsettling rocking back and forth as the suspension tries to cope with the overwhelming inertia of the 3-ton tank. Top all of this mediocrity off with an $80,000 price tag and you understand why the Hummer is our associate editor's choice as the ultimate trick.

Suprisingly, people here have them...the rich ones. They buy it to be tough and you see them get out and they are little tiny people who try to act tough.

I have driven one of the T-rexs the fake version of a hummer. Built on a suburban frame with a 383 stroker in it. We used to build the consoles over the aftermarket ac units the put in them. The only problem I had was that they are so damn wide you feel like your going to hit everything in sight. Oh well it was still fun.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I have driven one too. I was a valet parking attendant...and some people have the most interesting vehicles. The thing was weak though. It was a diesel, and when you stepped on the gas it just roared. Not much movement. Its all bark and not bite, unless you modify the engine and beef it up

Sure you do. Those things are a menance to the road. No one needs a car that big. People buy it just to look tough. Well, they get negative attention from me!
