Is it possible to deaden the sound of an exhaust dramatically while still gaining maximum performance? I despise ricey sounds. I refuse to get an exhaust system unless this can be done.
Thanks.

you can buy an exhaust system that comes with a silencer.

Wouldn't I have to take it off before I race?

Get a dynomax muffler and then do a custom cat back piping. I have the dynomax super turbo series muffler and it is deep, not raspy/ricey. I believe Red has this as well. They sound nice and deep, but don't resonate or drone at constant speed either.

the silencer inserts into the exhaust pipe and has little screws to bolt it on. you can easily unbolt it and take it out to race if you wanted to. but i do not believe that it is mandatory. it should provide the same performance with or withour.

Majority of mufflers, the silencer will hamper if not negate any gain in hp. Its like blowing through a straw, then trying to blow through it with the end pinched.

a resonator between the cat and muffler will do.... or a muffler type of resonator similar to the ones made by greddy
