Ok, I live in a small town but its really full of imports. But only one kid has a turbo car. a 95 gst eclipse. He is undefeted street racing and racing all together. He only has exhaust and intake. But he only races these under powered cars with no turbos and he thinks he's hot ****. He goes around talking abunch of ****. He can't drive worth crap, i raced him in my non turbo eclipse i HAD and lost by a car length.


My q's is what would it take, preformance wise to bet him in my 2001 tibby? NOS(how much if so, how much is safe),Turbo, supercharger, what. Help, i want to put this trash talking to an end. I have a budget of about 1500. Could i build a turbo system for that?

If you put UFB Turbo (which will cost you $4000 plus proper installation and other mods such as spring, brake, tires, wheels, and etc so that turbo can be supported by your car), you will most likely be import king in your town.

Or just try NOS. You might be able to beat him. I heard that ZEX NOS is pretty safe if used properly.

Hey, on the eclipse... Full Cat Back? Or just high flow muff? Intake... shorty? or full cai. Ram air?

NAWWWWWS should help ya. However I wouldn't go with NOS without upgrading your internals. I know it's possible w/ like a 40 shot, but still... do yourself a favor and upgrade! I would get a full cat back, header, intake and upgrade your plugs and wires. Maybe also look into a BBTB and a new intake manifold.

If you wanna go forced induction go for a turbo if you're going to race like that. Laugh as he thinks he's hot $#!T keeping up with you, then BAM yur gone. ha ha ha. NOS could be like that too. he he he<img src=/images/forums/snitz/thumbup.gif width=25 height=18 border=0>

I wouldn't just recomend nos, but kinda what mouse said:
your 140. he's 210
and he weighs just a tit bit more then you, nothing to make too big of a differences, could be the same depending on who has the fat chick in the car...

If you want to lick the mofo, go with a bbtb and matching intake manifold. Everyone, i know, especially lo n show, got the bbtb, it was okay, but when they get the IM matched, they said it was like, holy ****. These are a little more expensive to hp gain, but these will give you very good throttle control which will help you get off the line.

something physcological here, if you whoop his ass right off the line, and jump over a car length ahead of him, he is going to be so nervous and scared, that is usually what forces someone to mess up, misshift, shift too soon, shift too late, etc.

I wouldn't worry about wires, but I would go with zex plugs with a little retarded timing. Then go with the zex nitrous kit. Upgrade your fuel pump, and go with the 65 shot. Possibly get a window limiter (so you don't spray nos too low too high) and a bottle warmer.

if you still have cash to go after this guy, go with a 2.25 mandrel bent cat back, and if you have a few more pennies to waste, go with some nice shiny 9at least when you install them) headers, preferrably 4-1, but if you feel so inclined 421, with a high flow catalitic converter.

go with the bbtb and im first, then your fuel pump and nos, then exhaust, and if you don't have an intake yet, you better put one on first thing. At least slap a cone filter on it, but preferably get a nice CAI. Sorry, that should be FIRST step.

and last but not least, for a little more hp right before you shift, go with a 97 intake cam form the 1.8 tib, a cheap little upgrade that will give you one little more boost.

racing this ass now? you now have the full power band playing hp. without zex, with all upgrades, maybe 160 hp through your whole spectrum, with zex 225, plus you have it as soon as you hit the button, he has to wait intul the turbo sppools and really gets into second gear before he has his full hp going.

So realistically, you could jump on him a whole car length, then he has to play catch up, and with your nos cooking full speed ahead, probably unlikley.

or, if you go with the stage one kit from hp, that puts you at 250 whp (think 140-300 stock numbers) and then you could eat anything in town you probably wanted, stay away from corvettes and vipers still, just eye them really mean and let them hear your turbo bov roar :)

ohh horseshit, you have a budget a nice one, and i didn't see it.

bbtb and im: 500? if you get a random special, i think it' random, i dunno i forgot

zex and fuel pump with plugs $650 or so

then go with the a cai $150, and a cat back exhaust.

that should still get you there pretty damn nicely. don't go bigger then a 2.25, shouldn't be losing hp at that, but the nos, it will help when you are shooting.

when you get more money, get the full exhaust done with headers, and an intake cam

then you are pretty damned ready to go :)

GST? That is a Turbo, I forget if thats awd or not, if anything hes putting down about 185whp to 175whp, in a manual 2001 tib, you are putting down about 120whp in a manual, and 110whp in an auto, and he would be putitng down less if he is an auto.

I know low and show tiburon, ran a 282 degree cams, pus 65 shot of nos with and upgraded fuel pump.
140+65+10 or so for cai and cams and exhaust, 215? It will be a good race then :)

Don't bother getting either the 1.8L cam or the GT cam, they don't do enough to make any difference. You can put a 75shot in your car with all stock internals all day long. I have spoken to several professionals that put in NOS systems in 2.0L cars all the time. They told me a Focus can take a 100 shot stock...so don't worry about it. Get the CAI and exhaust as soon as you can. Then if you want to spend the money on a BBTB and IM, go for it. The BBTB is a good upgrade for a NOS system, since many techs spray it right in there, and the increased diameter helps.

i want to beg to differ on the cams. when you can get a used cam, for $20, and it ads 2 horsepower in your high end, i would have to say it's worth it. if you get 10 horsepower out of 400 headers, that is 40 bucks a hp, 10 a hp on your cheap little cam.

75 nos, yeah, but he is a first time user. if you go crazy with nos, you will blow **** up. lots of people have done it, ask them.

and a 100 shot on a ford focus, would be perfect. new users blowing those shitting things up and getting it off the road. that would be just wonderful.

yeah, with what i said you can run 75 easily, but make sure you get the window limiter, i would trust a computer any day over my adrenaline rushed thumb.

bbtb and im are a great combo to go along with the nos. besides the limited hp gain, throttle response is wonderful. i said it before, i will say it again. if you can do something to your car that adds more then horsewpoer, let's say throttle response, would you do it? some would go, but where's the hp??? but, if you could replace your whole car fiberglass, with carbon fiber for $350, painted and all (not realistic, but play with me here peaps) would you do it? and shave off 500 lbs of weight?? i am sure you would, no horsepower, but do you understand what that will do for you timewise?? that would put you down at the point of like an accent with the tib engine... which is very dangerous, and would give up time in your quarter.

throttle response will shave off time in the quarter.

i'm not saying 3 seconds like a turbocharger would, but i am simply saying, ask everyone else that has one, bbtb and im, and see what they tell you. i know lo n show said it was the best thing he had done to his car (his cams, exhaust, nos, everything, matching the im with a bbtb he said was amazing) i'm sure that doesn't include all the **** he has done looks wise<img src=/images/forums/snitz/angel.gif width=25 height=20 border=0>


argue with me if you want. you said 1500 bux, i showed you how to spend the 1500 bux

if you want to make sure you can beat himshit, go with some new pistons, new fuel pump and run a wet 150 shot of nos. that should get you for sure where you want to be.

Ok, I have done my homework for a while and here is what I am doing with my Tib.

First, I purchased an intake (HVE). Then I am getting a cat-back (speedstate) with a carbonfiber muffler (Karbonlite). I am waiting for my BBTB (KORE). These are light modifications.

Next in line is the NOS system. Then headers, high performance Cams, Matched Intake Manifold, and S-AFC.

That should complete my system, I am not looking to blow away Porsches, I just want to be at Honda killer...or whatever...

mateus, get the im matched sooner, like when you install the bbtb, you'll feel the difference a lot sooner. but other then that, good set-up. something you may look at instead, is have a catback system made for you at a shop, mandrel bent, if you look around and get some quotes, you can save a lot more money by having them make you one.

i don't think i saw it on your list, but along with the nos, go with an upgraded fuel pump. by doing that, it allows you to use higher shots of nos a little safer. i personally don't care how long i have used nos, with nos, i would always do a fuel pump upgrade as a safety precation. personally, i don't have tons to spend on my car, but if i do, i don't want to blow my engine to hell after a couple months of nos use, and be out thousands for a new engine.

Keep your head up... If he manages to get the edge on you, just coast your car a little closer to his to scare the **** out of him but be careful not to stick him in the door, just make him think that's what'll happen and he'll lose confidence in himself, you'll get in front of him then...

Im going to race him today or tommorow and see where i stand as of now because the only time i raced him was in my old non turbo eclipse, he about stalled of the start. lost by a car . Hopfully i should be able to shut him up for a while until i get some money. i said i had about 1500 but after yesterday night i don't know.

I think i got my GF pregnet, she took on of those home test and was positive. so she goes in to the doctor saterday. Oh shitoh **** so it looks like my budget may drop considerably. She wants to get an abortion but i said no. He cousin was supossed to take her to washington to get an abortion if it ever happened so i have to keep an eye on her so she don't split. I don't know how this is going to turn out. I don't wanna be a daddy<img src=/images/forums/snitz/cry.gif width=16 height=16 border=0> we'll see.

I raced him, Lost by 2 car lengths, he got better at driving.

It was all in the power. I drive perfect, it was an exact qm and my speed 88 mph is where the 16 flat mark is so i ran better then perfect, when that turbo spooled up and started giving full boost i stood no chance at winning.
