I just made a CAI for my Tibby. I wanted to know if I put my filter in the right spot, it's right between the radiator and fender. Does it have to go lower or is good where I have it <img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

I have the speedstate(aos) cai and that's pretty much where it goes. Sounds good to me.
If you go in the fender like some others you need the bypass or you will suck major water in the rain.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

2001 blue Tibby, leather, cd, custom racing stripes, etc. every option avail.

that sounds like a good place, that is where you get some of the coldest air, w/o putting it in the fender. good job! post some pics if possible

Don't listen to scotto here, since he obviously doesn't know anything about filters or intakes at all.

The bypass valve is crap, it only works if the filter is completely submerged in water. So if you drive into a 24" puddle, you might need it. Of course, at that depth, you have other things to worry about.

All air filter (cone style) should be oiled before you put them on the car. The oil prevents water from entering the filter. So your filter doesn't "breathe in some major water" or whatever he was talking about.

If I don't know anything then why do KORE and speedstate sell the bypass valves ? I guess THEY don't know anything either. I realize it might NEVER happen, but don't you think the guy oughta know before he goes through an intersection like I used to go through in L.A. and get stuck ?
I've been tuning cars since the 80's when I had triple webers on my 260z. Try syncing those things.<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>

The AEM bypass is a good bit of insurance. It doesn't really hurt performance (maybe 1 hp), and the piece of mind it gives you is worth the $75.

BTW...I have yet to dunk the nose of ANY vehicle I've driven/ridden into water. There's just no excuse for it. When you see standing water, you go around it. It's that simple.

Hmmm...why do they sell the "ab-erciser" and all those pieces of crap? Maybe because it's a business, and they make a profit from it. Kore and Speedstate don't sell stuff at cost just to be out friends. They sell items that people will buy, because it's profitable. It's called business, look into it, that's what makes our society work.

Quit thinking you are something special when you are not. If you don't think it's a viable risk, than just state your opinion. I am NOT the only person that thinks this way, that's why I like my CAI. You cannot tell me that a tire churning water in a fender well isn't MORE of a risk - no matter how much - next to a filter than where mine is. Don't you think it is SMART to let someone know what risk they run before you tell them what to do? You must think your opinion is the only one valid. If that's so , you need to move to an island where someone might worship you.

Ok guys...calm it down in here, no need to turn this into a flame.

The fact is that KORE and Speedstate do sell their intakes with and without the Bypass valve. As previously stated it is all in the matter of your opinion. You do not need the bypass valve, but it is an added insurance if you live in a area prone to heavy water!<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
