The detergents will vary by what brand you buy...usually not by the octane. What you're saying could be true also about higher octane having more detergent, but even still, using higher octane gas than your car manufacturer recommends can actually do more harm than good (i.e. more carbon buildup). Obviously, your car is not turbo'ed, nor is it running advanced timing...and since it's brand new I highly doubt that 87 octane is gonna cause pinging at this point. So to use anything more than 87 is a waste of money. And dude, the comment about high octane gas having a lower freezing point is BS. If you're really concerned about the fuel your car is getting...I would rather spend more money buying name brand gas than no-namers.
