Sorry for the long quote but this came from another forum and is split between someones seperate posts within a thread. And I just wanted to post the most interesting aspects of it here to maybe get some people talking about NA power.

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>We just got off the dyno with a FULLY tuned unbored 2.0 Beta Tiburon.
170 hp at the wheels on 89 AKI or 94 ROM octane fuel. That right around 200 crank hp. Looks like we could add a bit more timing and get 175 or so hp.
It has everything. Cam, Ported head, 11.0:1 pistons, bigger throttle body, headers, Exhaust and the most expensive pieces... New Custom multi throttle intake and Haltech E6K tuned by the "HITman".

It really gets up and goes from 4500 rpms and up.

Sorry guys I will be on vacation for one week and won't be able to post any pictures or dyno graphs until I get back. Also I think I used up all of my alloted space on fxtreme, so could someone host these pictures for me?

Cheuk

The cam was an HVE grind and the pistons were HKS.
Cheuk

It is hp in PS(metric).
Couldn't tell you the exact cam specs but it was a high lift and around 268 degree cam (not outrageous), I don't think HVE told us the exact specs.
The HKS pistons were around $1000 US for the customer. Everything is expensive when the Japanese sell us something... usual Japanese markup... 25% customs duties and the usual Korean tuner markup.

That's ridiculous. That goes to show how bad the Beta motor is designed for naturally aspirated applications.

Which begs the question ... was the Beta designed to be a FI engine and later just passed off as NA or is it just over all a bad design.

That'd be pretty sweet if it WAS designed for Forced Induction.

I'll email the engineers at Hyundai and find out.

It seems the Alpha engine in the Accent is better suited for NA and the Beta for FI.

Some more quoted news on the all motor Tibby/Beta engine.

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>Sorry guys, I've been a little busy.
We are using two type of quad throttle systems. One is by HVE which is a cut and weld job of a stock intake... the plenum is cut and a quad system welded to the intake runners. The second is by another Austalian company... I will withhold the name until we can get firm commitment from both Champion and the shop to continue making these. It is really a quality piece and has very short runners... around 2 inches. It's hard to say if the multithrottles made the difference or the serious port job. But the Tibby went from 153 wheel hp with a mild port job and stock intake plenum to 170 with a more serious port job and the quad throttles. No other changes, same cam, exhaust and tuned Haltech. We have been experimenting with unusual head work.
We are in talks with a company to have a complete HEAD recasted (with better flow characteristics).

As soon as I get off my lazy butt I will develop some pictures. I've been too busy working on my cars and getting engaged.

ill say this the beta 2.0L is ver good with a turbo but the transmission is made of glass and is not very strong. The turbo MR2s have the same problem. the cure is to avoid tire spin or get and first gen GST eclips trany componets and put them in the the tiburon trany housing.

rally cross is the only way to go

Hyundais respond the same to mods as do the Hondas with superior flowing heads. The only difference is they have much more of a variety of aftermarket support/research done than we do :dead:

Is there a reason you brought this thread up pelaoperformance? :eek:gre: Let the dead lie unless you have something to add/ask.
