I commented on one of these in another post but thought this thread might be useful.

Clear Side Markers
Ok this ones suprisingly easy. Remove your side marker and look in the hole that your light blub fits in. The yellow portion of the side marker is actually a separate piece held in place by several clamps. Using a screw driver(or some other long tool) pop the yellow piece out and then break it into small pieces. Shake the pieces out through the light blub hole and walla you have clear side markers! NOTE: Carefull with the screw driver, or you may scratch the lense itself!

Quicker Shifting
This ones easy too. Remove your shifter knob and the glove. See the little ball shape that holde the glove up? Just below it take a metal saw and cut it off. Cut off from the bottom of the ball up. Put your shifting glove and shifter knob back on and walla you will be shifting faster. NOTE: when you do this you either need a threadless knob shifter or you will need to rethread the pole if you choose to reinstall your old knob.

Anyone else with free mods post'em!

Yup you can do that to 2k+ accents! And to clear up confusion. I said the wrong thing above. Its not side markers I was talking about, its clear corners(blinker signal).

Door Handle Change
Hit up a junk yard for a 4 door accent just like yours. Take the read door handles off the junker. Then install power locks on your 2 door accents. Then swap the key hole handles with the ones from the junker which don't have key holes. You will need to make a slight modification for one of the screw holes, no big problem though. And walla, no key hole to break into and it looks better :) NOTE: Make sure you have power locks or get them installed first! Otherwise you won't be able to unlock your doors :)

That one costs abit but its a nice mod. Incase anyone is curious these mods I have posted are things done/being done to my car. The suggestions came from a friend of mine named Hector(KidHyundai on some boards). Thanks Hec!

I don't know about the accent but I tried it on the Tib and chipped the lens. It is worth a try but be willing to replace them if you do break them. It works for some and others is does not.

This will look like a short shifter but will not be a short shifter. It does not shorten the throw between the pivot and gear box but is still a cool idea. I did it on an old MGB I used too own. The threads were actualy long enough that I did not have to rethread.
Rethreading will be a pain in the azz. The only reason I did it was for looks and feel. The stock shifter in the MG was like a mile long.

Sounds cool! If you ge an actuator to open the door then you can shave the door handles off all together. Then when you disarm your alarm the door pops open. The actuator shouldn't cost anymore then the door handles fron the junk yard. Just an idea.

Hey Paige, do you have pictures of any of these mods? If so, would you be willing to write up an article on each one for the "How-To" section?

I am working on a website for my car, and will have screenshots there. And for how-to manuals, sure thing :)

I have completed the shorter shifter one already and am working on the clear corner. Will do the door handle thing next, I am documenting all of them with pic's so as to make it as clear as possible.

The shorter sifter actually does shorten the shifting distance. An excellent example : Earth and Pluto. Both circle the same sun, but Earth has to move less. So your factory height shifter is Pluto. Drop it down to Earth and you will have to shift less :)

Wierd example...but it works :)

I am actually documenting everything I do to my car. I'll let you know about the how-to's and my website 4doorgl.

Only problem with shaved door handles is most tracks won't pass your car on inspection.

Also of note, some of my friends had trouble reaching the orange lense so they drilled a hole in the back of the lense exactly where the orange piece was positioned. Made it much easier to pop the orange piece loose. Once finished they used some rubber glue the same color as the back of the turn signal and neatly sealed it up. Can't really tell it was ever done since that entire area is hidden behind your front fender.

Good luck with the mods and I hope it didn't sound like I was trashing them earlier. I just wanted these kids to be totally informed before they went out to their garage and started cutting shifters and disassembling corners. They are great ideas for those who don't have alot of cash flow.

As far as the shifter goes. Yes you should get quicker shifts due to the distence from the pivot point to your hand is shorter. Just like grabbing it in a lower place would. But a true short shifter sortens the distance between the pivot and the gearbox. This allows for an even faster and smoother shift.

If you you are real nice and say please, I will tell you how to get 50hp out of a coffee can. I am sure you know what I am talking about 4dr.

Its all good :) I plan on eventually going with a short shifter. Add that with the cut off stick and shifting will be a dream :)

And how do you get 50 hp out of a coffee can :)

Hey peeps!!

I just did it this afternoon!! Took alot of work but once I figured it out, it went FINE. I now have clear corners, for FREE, thanx to paige, and Taco PImp. Good work you two! As for the quicker shifting, I'll wait for a quick throw! See yall

The best feeling is beating a Civic Si with an Accent GSi, then seeing how the guy is pissed!!!

Ok guys here is your almost free cold air intake.
The design will not win you any shows but it will give you a little more hp.

Step 1
Disconect everthing from your intake opening up to the air box and remove.

Step 2
get some flex tube (preferable one made of aluminum or some othe material that won't kink and close up)and hook it to the airbox.
make sure it won't come loose.

Step 3
Take the other end and lead the opening to an open area in the front bumper. Face it forward so air will be forced in when you are driving.

It is a little ricey but will only cost a few bucks for the flex tube. The beauty is that you can use the stock filter.

I still suggest a CAI if you can afford it cause it will be better and your friends won't laugh when they see it. But this will give you some cheap hp gains.

Sounds fun, I'll have to check it out.

I am assuming the filter blocks off any water that gets in through the hose correct? The old position of the tube(factory) is in a position that is pretty much water protected.

In order to hydrolock an engine you would have to completely submerge the filter.
Cause the filter is located a couple of feet past the opening you could not do this unless you submerged the car.
