Well, I finally got mine (put in 2 inch piping & removed the resonator). Just like I thought, my muffler didn't sound as loud because of the lack of sufficient air-flow. Now its sounds powerful, but I didn't really notice that much gain in performance, compared to when I put on the CAI. I'm happy now though, I don't have to rev that high to scare people who are going to cross the street, now they run when they here my engine rev :). And the best part was, it only cost me $70... gotta love the junk yard by Shea Stadium (where the NY Mets play).

I really don't understand your question... do you mean taking out the catalytic converter? Or do you mean not putting larger piping, and just having 4-2-1 headers?
Regardless, the cat-back exhaust is good to do no matter what you decide to do to the engine. 4-2-1 headers should give you even power distribution throught the rpm range. So, if you would ideally use the cat-back, headers, and intake to have a good intake/exhaust system.
Rudy... I just did two inches 'cause 2 1/4 is about the limit with the little power that the accent comes with. But once I do the beta engine swap, I'll go all out in performing engine mods'.

i believe obsidian is referring to replacing the cat with a high flow one. the stock cat is extremely restrictive and it would be nice to run without it but emissions laws prevent that. you could replace it but that is also illegal and not many muffler shops will do it.

obsidian, what decrum was talking about was a cat-back exhaust which is larger piping from the cat to the muffler. not replacing the cat.

hope that cleared a little up.
