Grinding rear brakes

2658 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  pare_john
I have a 2001 Accent GSI and everytime I take it out in the wet, after leaving the car sit for a little, the rear brakes grind for a while then it stops. It almost sounds like the rear brakes are shot. I only have 22000 KM on it. Could they already be gone?

As far as I know, it's pretty normalthat drum brakes make noises when wet, or even when there is extreme moisture. But it should go away after two or three long brakes.
If it is persistent, have them looked, normally they apply air pressure, clean the brake pad with sand paper and that's it.

OK, I didn't buy the site...
Are you sure you don't brake with front wheels only? <img src=/images/forums/snitz/laugh.gif width=15 height=31 border=0><img src=/images/forums/snitz/laugh.gif width=15 height=31 border=0><img src=/images/forums/snitz/laugh.gif width=15 height=31 border=0>
That's one hell of a long interval for rear brake pads.<img src=/images/forums/snitz/smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>
