My b/f has a set of aftermarket rims, falken 502 I think, BSA 17" similar to KONIG tantrums with tuner lug nuts...

Because winter is here, we were trying to take them off and part of the lug nut has cracked and when we try to take it off it just spreads open more. We also tried with pliers to squeeze it and take it off, nothing.

The car is a 2000 Tiburon SE...

Guys, please if anyone has any ideas how to get off without ruining the rim, can you please help me? PLEASE!

Thanks a bunch!

Are you talking about one of the nuts that holds the wheel on there? If it were me I wouldn't worry about cracking the nut anymore it's already ruined just worry about trying to get it off. Sorry I don't really have any suggestions on how to get it off.

How the hell does it spread open???

1) there is noting pushing it apart.
2) even if there was the lug wrench would hold it together sincr it holds the sides.

Some lug nuts have little chrome caps on them. Maybe this is what is splitting. If that is the case then just pull the cap off and the real lug nut is under there.

What are you using to try and remove the lug nuts? The factory breaker bar? If the lug nut is actually cracked and you can't get it off...then you're only option is to go to a mechanic and have them cut the lug not off. It sounds like the lug nut is toast anyway, so once you finely do get the rim/nuts off...be sure to buy a new and good set of quality lug's. Good luck!

My thoughts exactly the nut is already screwed up, just try to get it off with out damaging anything else.

Well, that's the thing, I don't want to damage the rim. And the fokers are asking for mad cash when I take it in to have them do it. (like a body shop or whatever).

No, it's the actual nut, there is no cover on top of it.

You're best bet then is to ttry and remove it yourself. Since it's already cracked..it won't take much to crack it all the way right down the center or whatever. Once you crack it all the way, you should be able to just pull it off the lug since it will be VERY loose fitting. If that doesn't work, then use kind of cut off wheel to cut the thing yourself.

Another thing to use is a hacksaw. It might take some time to get all the way through...but at least you'll get it without damaging the lug, or by spending loads of cash to have it cut off at a shop. If you're worrying about stripping it..don't worry about that happening. Cracked lug nuts won't strip on a lug unless they're seriously rusted on or whatever.

Is it one of those lock nuts such Gorillaz or somethign like that? If so are you using the key to try and take it off?

Cause I know that my locking nuts don't have covers on them they just look like regular nuts but you have to have the key to get them off.

Interesting problem. Not a big deal though. If you can get the nuts off, all you need is new lugnuts. That shouldn't be too much money. If you can't get it off, don't force it though. Bring it to a mechanic and have him do it. You'll take a somewhat minor problem and then break something else if you don't do it right.

There sure is alot of talk in here about Silky getting her bf's nuts off

Seriously if I am picturing this right then all you should have to do is wedge someting in the crack and pull it apart.

lol that sounds kinky too

heheh well here ill explain it a little better

my lug nuts are basically ones that you need a key.. well its a real stupid design. ill look for an example of them to post so you guys can see. i cant grip around the lug nut because their is no room. it is a lug nut where you stick some kind of key in.. the only thing i can think of is drilling out the bolt and lug and replacing the bolt :(
