The timing broke in my '01 1.6L Accent broke. I am trying to replace it so I know how much damage was done to the valves. I was able to remove the bolt holding the crankshaft pulley out, but I can not remove the pulley itself. Anyone have any tricks up their sleeve that can help me out?

Its wedged on their pretty good. You might have to get a big ass screw driver or pry bar to get it off. Or you can take a dead blow hammer to it. Wacking it a couple of times.

Why do you want to remove the pulley?

I was just following the procedure on Hyundai Service Website

It looks like I can't get the bottom of the timing belt cover off without removing the pulley, not unless I'm missing something.

Guess I'll keep whacking at it

Thanks, I upgraded my puny flathead to a flat bar and kept prying and turning the pulley. Now I just need to keep my fingers crossed that the engine is fine.
