Hey, what's up everyone?

Just got my Tibby on Monday, so don't know that much about it yet. Last night I bought a Sony Xplod deck and Sony 6.5 and 6X9 speakers. It costs like $65.00 to have it intstalled! I can do it myself, but I was wondering if anyone else has done it themselves and what you need to all take off to get to the speakers??

The door speakers - can you just take off the grill or do you have to pull away part of the whole molding on the door??

And the back speakers, I haven't looked at yet - they look too scary!! Help - how do I get to those??

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey TibbyGrrl,

Front Speakers:
Yup, you have to remove the whole door panel to unscrew the speaker grills from the back side of the door panel.

Click http://communities.msn.com/HyundaiTiburon/doorpanelremoval.msnw this link for more info.

Rear Speakers:
The grills just pop out, if you use a small flat head screwdriver, carefully pry (damn, I forgot...) either the top or bottom of the grill and it will pop right out.

Sorry, hopefuly someone will know whether its the top or bottom.

Just a quick warning on the door speakers. They are not 6.5's, they are 6.5 "S". They are slightly LARGER than 6.5's. The Sony speakers will need brackets or spacers made up to fit right.

I have the ES Explode 6.5's and 6x9's and 12" subs. I run them through a 75Wx4 amp for the main speakers, and a 600x2 amp for the subwoofers, all of it running off the stock head unit.

The sound quality is good, but not "perfect" from some audiophiles. Also, the subs are way to big and way over powered for such a small car. I keep my sub amp cranked down to about 1/8th power, or I would vibrate the car apart at anything louder than 1/4 volume from the radio/CD.

Leave it to Random to Needlessly complicate things.

Thanks for all your help guys!

Uh oh - the Sony's won't fit right?? You said I need to have the brackets made up? Like specially made, or just go buy some brackets?? That kind of stinks. I remeber seeing something at the store about some speakers that were 6.5 something and they were a little larger than 6.5 - I guess those were the correct fit then hey?

Random - Why inthe world are you running all of that off of your stock head unit??? Don't you think that would sound a lot better if you bought a better one?? Also, your subs are way too big?? Why don't you dyno-mat?? Then there wouldn't be a problem and you could enjoy the full sound of your subs

Lantra - I have always gone with Pioneer, but thought I would try something new this time.

CyberGreg - I love your dash, we have that done to our 2000 Cougar (it's zinc yellow though):) I like your color though a lot!

Got the deck and the rear speakers installed last night, and tonight we are going to take on the door speakers. I'm not too excited about that.

Why can't the grill just pop of the door speaks like the rear speaks??

The red on the Xplod 6X9's look really cool in the back cause I tore all the material of the grill so the red will show through the grill - might look cool if I get some neons in there or something.

Did you get the door speakers done?

You need to pry off the little triangle at the front corner of the window. Then unscrew I think 6 screws on the edges of the door (You don't need to unscrew the ones at the bottom of the door). Then unscrew the one holding the trim around the door handle and remove the trim piece. Pry out the 2 plugs in the door handle and remove those screws. If I haven't forgotten anything, the door should then lift straight up. Once you get it loose, you have to unplug the connector for the power door/windows.

I had to fabricate my own brackets to fit in the Polk 6.25's. Along with my Pioneer 3300 headunit it sounds really good (for $300) :)

Installation of the door speakers is a pain in the ass. You do have to take the whole door panel off to gain access to the speakers in the doors. However you do not have to take off the triangles that are in the top front off the door. The speakers are 6.5s which means the whole is a little larger than the normal 6.5 inch speakers. Any audio shop in your area should sell brackets that will allow you to easily put the speaker in the opening. As for taking the door panel off that is also pretty easy. You need to take the screw out of the door handle molding and pop that off. Next take the two screws out of the very front of the door and the two along the back of the door. There are two more screws that hold in the handle you use to close the door with. After all these screws are out you need to pop the door panel away from the door. When these are are all done just grab the back end of the door panel and lift up. If you have any questions let me know b/c I just did this to my car last week.

Yeah, thanks guys i got tht all done last week. It was pretty easy, I thought it would take a lot longer thatn it did. The only crappy thing is that we had to go to Best Buy at like 8:55 (they close at 9!!) and buy four spacers to fit on there since my xplod's were a little bit too small. No biggie though - it all worked out fine. :)

The deck on the other hadnwas a pain in the bootie! ;) What's up with that long metal thing right in the middle of where the deck goes? It was screwing everything up and we had to take a hack-saw (or however you spell it) and cut it of there to fir my deck! It was all okay in the end though! :)
