We bought this beautiful car certified used last November. It ran wonderful until about April and then the problem started: The car stalls when running on low speed, making turns or idling. Sometimes it shudders, and sometimes it shudders and then stalls.

The car also gets horrible gas mileage.

We've taken it to the original dealer and to another local dealer over 20 times. They replaced the Mass Airflow Sensor and many other things. They can never replicate the problem, and don't get any codes. When one of their mechanics rode in it with my wife, he saw it stall, but still could not replicate it later.

The situation is extremely frustrating: It's a nice car, the most expensive vehicle we've ever owned, and it's got this problem.

Any help would be greatly apprecialted. I have all the receipts from the trips to the dealers and can provide a complete list of parts that they have replaced.

Does it only do it when it's warm? COld? Does it matter?
How does the car perform when it's hotrodded somewhat. Put her to the floor, how does it go through the gear? Any shudders?

Yank the spark plugs. What do they look like? Is one darker than the rest?
Pop the hood at night, somewhere pitch black. Have someone rev the engine. Check to see if perhaps one of the spark plugs has a cut in it and is arcing to another piece of metal or something.

Soooooooooo many things it could be. Anything from the ECU to anything that has to do with air or fuel.

Bad injector, bad pressure regulator, clogged fuel filter, bad sprak plug, bad wire, bad sensor, or short in the wiring to any of the above mentioned and more.

If it's under warranty just keep on the dealer. Eventually they'll throw enough parts at it that they'll get it right.

Thanks for the quick responses. I will post the listt of parts when I get home tinight. I think they have replaced all the spark plugs, but am not sure. It does seem to be driving just fine on high speeds, but does not seem to have a lot of pickup - you have to slam the gas for it to accelerate fast.

I would check and replace in this order (based on cost and likeliness to cause problem):

Fuel Filter (OEM - $15)
Spark Plugs (NGK V-Power - $10)
Spark Plug Wires (OEM - $50 or NGK Blue - $50)
Coilpack (OEM - $50)
Fuel Pressure Regulator (OEM - ?)

If none of that fixes it, you'll have to get more involved with testing various parts.

Here is the list of parts replaced or repairerd:

MAF Connection repaired
MAF Sensor replaced
TPS Assembly replaced
Plugs and wires replaced
Fuel Pressure Regulator replaced
Control Module-AT replaced
Idle Speed Actuator replaced twice
Auto Trans Control Module replaced

They never replaced the MAF wiring harness, just the sensor.

An update on the situation:

Took it to an independent mechanic, he seems to think that the crank sensor is at fault. He also says the fuel lines need to be cleaned. It is at the dealer now where they are supposed to replace the sensor and clean it now.

I would like some input from experienced people: Can a crank sensor cause the problem?

The mechanic also said that using White Glove or Wawa gas is not recommended because they add stuff that can get the lines clogged. Is that a valid point? What gas is best for this car?
