Well, im only 16, a few months ill be 17..

Another month and a half after that i get my liscence, and my mom is really thinking of getting me an affordable new car. I am looking at tiburons, either new 2k3 models, or an older 2k2 model for cheaper (since they won't be around anymore) and just fix the looks..

I will be on a budget, and i want to know what you all think of getting an I4 auto (unless im allowed to get a stick). I would love a stick, but im not paying as much as my mom is so she will want an auto. But i need to know what is hould do, i probably can't get a V6, so I4 is where its at, and Insurance too.. Im gunna research other hyundais also, but i love the new Tibby! Any help is appreciated, (especially price of mods and such)

Welcome to the Site.
We got ourselves a young one. hehe

Hmmm.. the big decision. Going for the Tuscani or for the Tib.
From reading other posts, if you get the I4 you have more space to do mods and there is support for the I4 already. The V6 is nice and big, but it might take a bit to get some more support.

Most people would rather get a manual cause its more fun, a bit more power and its cheaper, so getting stick would be the way to go.
Its a decision that you have to make with your mother and its up to your taste.

If you're on a budget, why not check out the Accent or Elantra. Get a 2000 (LC) or even a nice 95-99 (X3) Accent and save up for a beta swap.

For any good performance mods, it will cost a fair bit of change. Just look at some of the mods others have and you will see that it takes lots of time, money and work to get your car hooked up.

Well... that's just my 2 cents.
Hopefully other members will give you a shout.

Geez!!!!! You consider $16,000 for a new I4 Tib affordable?!?! I wish I was in your shoes

Exactly how much is your mom planning on spending on a car for you and then what will she let you do to the car?

The 5spd is about a full second faster in a 1/4 mile race and will cost you less to buy.

Also i believe the new Tib is classified as a sports car even if it is an I4 where the 1st and 2nd gens are considered economy cars making them cheaper to insure.

If I was getting the I4 I would probably go with the 2000-2001 for that reason alone. Plus you will have more money to put into mods.

Good idea, never even thought of it! BUt i really ahte the headlights, so the front will NEED a body kit on it ASAP if i got one of them..

My mom keeps talking about Saturns, but Hyundais are uch more pleasing to my eyes :)

I am selling my first generation tib. Autobot can vouch for the condition it is in. Plus plenty of mods and aftermarket for it

Welcome to the world of Hyundai If your mom is letting you spend all of that money on a car; and you want to do some performance mods on it. I would have to say either get the 2k1 or 2k2 Tibby, keep in mind that front pieces aren't gonna make you any faster. Mods for the 2k1, 2k2 Tib are avialable, which is a good thing if you hate searching for sh!t. The other option would definately be my choice. Which would be to buy the X3 Accent (95-99), which I think look pretty decent. That should cost you very little cash, where you might not even need mommy's help with the extra dough. Then you can buy a 5 speed if you want (I'd recommend it), then put a brand new Beta motor (Tiburon/Elantra) in your weightless ride. You can tell your mom you are buying the new motor so you know it's more or less brand new. Take the car to a performance shop and tell them to install it for you. It won't cost that much, like 500 or something. Then you have a 15.0 second car on your hands with NO aftermarket parts on it! Then, go from there.

No offense here but, If you are just 16 you should probably wait til you have a year or two of driving experience (learning how to drive well and safe!) before you go making a car faster. Young drivers end up in enough accidents as it is without making the car a quicker, more dangerous bullet. Just concentrate on driving, not talking on the phone and telling your passengers not to constantly talk to you while in heavy traffic and what not will make you a much better driver in the long run. Go to autocrosses for performance and you will have a blast and learn even more about driving! Oh yeah, definately get a stick shift though (tell your mom it's cheaper and it'll help you pay attention to driving!)

Just my .02 cents,

JustinL

Just a correction to AUTOBOT....the new Tibs arent classified as a sports car. They are calling them sub-compacts. I was afraid my insurance would go up, cause i heard it was a sports car..but when i bought mine and looked under the classification it said sub compact....AND my insurance did not go up. The only difference you may see is a small increase betweenthe I4 and the V6. I dont know how much...but it cant be that much since my ins is only $75 more every 6 months.

Slightly different for a 17 year old to be sure. He will pay more for one month of insurance that his mom or any other adult will for 6 months unless she is set as primary driver. That's a fact.

You sweat gasoline? Do you go to Vo-Tech? Cause when I was in school, all the kids that were in Vo-Tech smelled like gasJust curious.Just kidding; I give you props for getting one over Autobot; it seems like he knows everything about Hyundai's. No offense Autobot

Well, now my grandma has an incentive :) I get a new car, it MUST be auto, so she can drive it.. I'd prolly be under her insurance and might even be able ta get a V6.. Though they might want me to save money.. Hopefully i can talke her into getting one of these if thats what we pool for :)

((She doesnt use cars that much anyways, like in the mornig before im even up, so its all good.. and we'd keep her old car just to have probably))
