High mileage Accents

I'm looking for some feedback from those of you who have high-mileage Accents... say over 150,000 miles. I'm looking for some of the following:

* How many miles?
* What type of maintenance do you perform?
* Suggestions for maintenance

I'm trying to find out how typical high mileage Hyundais fare and what type of mileage I can expect with proper maintenance performed. Thanks!

I had a 1992 Hyundai Excel GS. It died on 195700 +/- miles and it beat the crap out of it.

The way I see it, If you keep up with all of the maintenance, any car would last you a lifetime. That's outside of their normal problems, though.
I had a 95 Accent...with around 216,000 kms...thats when I sold it to I.N.C.....and last I heard its still running strong:D

just stick to the basics....i changed my oil every 4000kms, timing belt...transmision filter and fluid flush is another big one.

hope that helped

Hold on, I didn't have my chance to brag.

I have a 95 Accent with 170,000 miles. I did regular maintance the whole way. i didn't have any problems other than changing the altenater a couple of times, and the water pump once, till now. It still ran good, but it smoked somtimes. I couldn't figure out what was causing the problem, till I decided to do a rebuild, and I discovered that the head was a little warped.

Oh. BTW I dog my car bad all the time. Just keep the oil clean.
hey...i bought my 98 accent at 118 000, now its at 123....as a mechanic i have the great privalge of working on my car anytime at work....so my oil changes are usually every 1500 - 2500km.

make sure ur oil is changed atleast every 4000, along with ur oil filter. also check ur oil level at least once or twice a month....at that age it usually starts buring oil...something u don't wanna hear because that would require u to do the rings.

Hey,
I am an AST student and I own a 98 Accent Hatchback. I am at 165,000 KM and I do this.........change oil every 5000 KM with a HIGH MILEAGE OIL FILTER AND OIL, usually from Valvoline (Oil Filter) and Castrol GTX High Mileage (Oil), then I add some LUCAS OIL TREATMENT, then change the Trans Filter once a year (Look for metal shavings on the magnets to see the wear of planetary gears) and use LUCAS TRANSMISSION FIX, Coolant flush once every 2 years, Power steering and brake I dont do often but I would say just do it when you feel is right, but every 2 years with the coolant flush would be perfect. Other than that, ALWAYS check your oil before you go on long drives, if your in the city, check it EVERY WEEK, the oil pans gasket at this age might be worn and leaking oil, plus your valve stem seals might be leaking and whenever you start your vehicle, you might get a puff of blue smoke, so I check mine ONCE A WEEK, and believe me, its worth it!!
^^Acctualy Lucas products are not what they seem!

I used to stand by the oil stablizer. But after reading this page it def. changed my mind....http://www.hyundaiperformance.com/showthread.php?t=72604

and this site http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/images/lucas/lucas.htm
I have a '99 GSi with 186000Kms.
Over the summer, I had to replace the oilpan as it had rusted through.
3 weeks after that, I pulled the dipstick, and the tube it goes in fell off, rusted off at the block, so I had to pull the oilpan again to pop the piece of dipstick tube out so I could put the new one in.
Other than that, I've been doing regular oil changes and sparkplugs.
When I pulled the oilpan, there was no evidence of metal bits or bad sludge, so the internals are in good shape.
Recently, I had to replace the brakes, and we found that one of the lower control arms bushings is loose, so a lower control arm is on the fix list.
Other than that, the car is an amazing wee beastie, no body rust.
^^I had a similar issue with my X3...but my dip stick acctually rusted in half:eek: ....i have no idea how....because the tube for it had not even a spot on it or hole or anything, kinda weird:cool:
I'm at 158000 on my 2000 Accent.

Basically replace everything as soon as it starts to go bad and keep up with the normal maintenance...
I also like to get into the higher RPMs a few times a week to help keep crap from building up...
Thanks for the help, everyone! I appreciate it. I've been fairly good with routine maintenance and I have used fully synthetic motor oil since day one, never exceeding the recommended change intervals. So far, so good! Have a great day, everyone!

105,000 and counting

I got mine in 2002 and it currently has 105,000 with no problems. has never let me sit, i change my oil about every 7,500 miles becuase i have a long commute. I had to change the bosch plat plugs at 97,000 because they started to misfire. based on the 100k they say they will go i got my use out of them :) It has always tapped if it's cold out first thing when it starts and then goes away shortly after. i heard this was a problem with them if they sit for any extended period of time. Car runs perfectly and i plan on keeping till it dies atleast 2 times. I'm currently looking at a 2007 SE and am going to roll the 3 grand i owe on this into the new one. so i wil have two vehicles to battle the commute. In the summer time i have been riding my Ninja 250 for commuting and am now looking at a CBR 600 to have for fun. :) Hope my input helps.

mileage on my Hyundai Accent

i have a 2001 hyundai accent hatchback i bought 9y4m ago. it has 196,000 miles on it and still running good except for burning oil. they could find no leak and no explination why it is burning oil. i have always kept up with my regular oil changes at about the 3500 mile mark, had timing belt changed at 54,000 and 140,000 so i'll be due soon. i keep up with the regular maintenance schedules but admit to going a little past the recommended time frame. i still get great gas mileage - 38 - 41mpg on the highway (even going at 80!) and about 32 - 34mpg in the city. the car really does well on the lower octane and especially in higher altitude. i'm hoping to have her (Venus is her name) for at least a couple more years.
210,000kms for 500 bucks :p lol

im 18 and just picked up my first car, a 2002 hyundai accent GL with 207,000kms on it. since i bought it ive put about 3000kms on it and shes about to roll to 210,000. not doin to bad for a 500 dollar car, passed the etest the other day with flying colours. just have to safety it now :p.

anyways what kind of problems should i watch out for with a car with this kinda mileage. also what is the longest anyone has herd of someone pushing one of these cars to?(mileage)

also, been driving lots of high way and back roads and not really getting the gas mileage i should be, anyone have any ez/cheap suggestions to make the mileage alil better
Mine has 277k+ and as long as I keep the fluids and such regularly kept she keeps running along...

Same here 259,000 it's still going (Betsy) mad little car's
Wife has a 2015 Accent 1.6 L and she just broke 100k and never had to have any engine repair, I always maintain her vehicle with good synthetic fluids, we use this for oil changes every 6 months, plus we took it for the tranny fluid change with synthetic.

the seats are worn out though, may rip em out and replace them with some aftermarket seats.
my 05 accent has 260,000 kms and still runs strong. i always beat on it and get it to high rpms almost every time i drive. No idea what oil was put in since my dad had an oil change done right before i bought it. My sister used to own it and i have no idea what she did. Other than the rust, Ontario car, its a fun little beater thats still running
