I was driving my 2003 tib downthe road today not doing anything crazy and KERBLAM! I thought i hit a huge pothole in the road so i coasted on to the stop light. Light turns green my clutch goes to the floor withouth ANY pressure. I press the gas....bzzzzzz neat little grinding sound inside the bellhousing. I blew my clutch with 1250 miles on this fvcker. the only good thing about this is it happened right in front of the local dealer. So all i had to do was push it in to the parking lot. I am praying to GOD that I got the 1 out of 10,000 clutches that was not manufactured properly and got past inspection. I hope that Hyundai did not underestimate the power of the V6 and put in a inferior clutch that will continually fail. Anyways....everyone cry with me for a little while and make me feel better while my tib gets fixed.

i was extremely easy on her. Im not fool to engine break in periods...I was a mechanic at my other job. so i know what it takes. 1000 miles break in correct? This happened at 1250. It was well broken in.

That sucks. But please, M1234,
don't jump to conclusions about the new Tib based on an isolated incident. I've heard of mechanical failure probs on new BMWs. Unless we start hearing about clutch failure in other new Tibs I'm assuming its
just a manufacturing defect of something. Hope your back on the road again soon Killer...pimp-slapping those Hondas back to Japan.

Eventhough that should not have happened with the clutch was not defective, but the break in period is 1200 miles on these tibs. But dont get me wrong i feel for you, that definately should not have happened. I have 1500 on mine and its just fine.

oh well at least you broke it in front of a dealer, maybe it just needed to get broken in...then again maybe you just got a "friday" clutch. Hope it all works out!

i know that a "bad" clutch can slip by inspection from time to time..so im hoping i got one of those "bad" clutches. Who knows.....lord knows i hope thats the case. Then again if not...guess ill get a heavier duty clutch if need be.

Maybe you should get the better clutch to begin with, rather than wait for the clutch to go south again...you'll never know, but at least you'll have the peace of mind after that!

No problems with mine either. It actually feels much better than the clutch in my 98. It engages much earlier than the one on the old car.

Speaking of clutches etc.

I have been trying to get into driving stick again and borrowed my friends early 90's Jetta for a day.

I stalled like 3-4 times and bad launches. I am beginning to become afraid that I lost my touch!!!

The Jetta had over 325,000 kms on it so its old dont get me wrong, but I am afraid if I am rusty it will blow the clutch. Suggestions??? Keep practicing?? I don't know ANYONE with a newer car that will let me try cause all the old cars the clutch usually sucks (my friends Tercel, the Jetta, Protege).

The last thing I would want to do is blow the clutch in the first couple weeks myself!!!!

Neotrix666,

It states in your owners manual what the break-in period. For the 2003's it is 1200 miles.
