I'm reading my new Sport Compact Car magazine(March 02) and on page 28 they are talking about the new 2003 Tibs at SEMA. The very last line they put "We'll test a stock V6 six-speed Tiburon next month. Trust us, the car is COOL". SWEET! Now maybe we will get some SOLID figures for the cars performance <img src=/images/forums/snitz/thumbup.gif width=25 height=18 border=0>

And they have done how many tests on the 2K1 VW Wolfsburg edition? This is a good thing for us HYUNDAI tuners. We don't get much mag exposure. I sent pics and portfolios(professional) out to EVERY mag when she had her car. They didn't even put them in their readers rides. Super Street shot it down at NOPI 2000 and PROMISED us it would be in the NOPI issue. They lied. I had been talking to Dave Coleman(He actually liked her car) at SCC about her car and we set up a meet date back in spring 2001 to shoot her car. He e mailed me back a couple days before the shoot and cancelled.

YES!! Now we got some numbers to not help us some more!!!

SCC drivers suck. Espeically if they aren't driving the 'proper H'.

I am curious if they will do a huge right up on the DELTA 2.7 V6 as they did with the Nissan 2.5 V-Spec where they tore the engine down, took pictures, pointed out weaknesses etc. THAT I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN!

the reason why hyundai has the got shaft so far from the mag scene is because up until the last couple years hyundai's were ass. 97' tib started to change things, '00 elantra and tib really changed things, and now with the 02 elantra GT and the 03 tib increasing in quality, increasing in performance, and increasing in tunability... i think the aftermarket is finally going to get big.

think of it like this, did you ever see Geos in mags? or what about the current saturns, or cavileers. i mean you see them once in a blue moon, but they arent all that common in mags(except maybe the cavi), but how many riceboys do you see rolling these cars? i see more "hooked up" saturns then i do hondas. it's because those cars are still currently ass. not saying there arent plenty of enthusiasts who tune those cars, but for the most part it's very limited to looks mods (come on, admit it, for every 1 hyundai you see with major engine mods, you see 10 riceboys, and when was the last time you saw a V8 metro in a mag? i've never seen one, but i know their out there. why arent they in mags? because no-one cares).

now hyundai is finally starting to build a major enthusiast base that is actually starting to draw people in from other manufacturers. is that good? absolutely. is it suprizing? not really. should mags cover this? definately. but should we really be all that suprized? i dont think so.
Yeah there are issues on tuning Wolfsburgs, but only because VW FINALLY produced a decent tuner car, no-one was really shocked when they finally started to do writeups about them. there definately is alot more VW coverage then the Korean makes, but only because VW is finally starting to produce quality cars that are drawing people into it's community. you know how many people are registered on Vwvortex? 45 thousand.

anyway. just posted that because it's not a real shock that someone gave the V6 tib some coverage, i just didn't really understand why you spooged your pants when you found out. haha

I think the whole reason that SCC doesn't cover a lot of cars like Hyundai's is that there wasn't much of a readily available aftermarket available for them until recently.

Now that the aftermarket for Hyundai has started to grow, they are covering them. I also suspect it has a lot to do with advertising too.

Just my thoughts.

Have to agree with REID. Hyundai has been real sweet to SCC as of recently. They got to drive the US spec rally car in a race. I just pray that Hyundai gives them a car to keep, tune, and test like the other manufatures. I bet that the writers at SCC are a bunch of "give it to us for free and will promote it" hores. Magazines are bussiness people. Everytime that they mention a car or aftermarket product somebody gets paid. I am willing to bet that Hyundai has figured that out and is now playing.
Oh and one other thing, SCC is owned by a huge conglomerate publishing company. We will probably start seeing many more Hyundai adds in all those mags.
This does not mean that the writers or editors of these mags can not be fair or objective. We all know that dynos can't lie. But it does tend to slant the views.

Well just thought I might throw this in. Can you say politics? Think about it. Maybe I'm wrong.
It's great that SCC finally got their Honda/ Acura tuning head out of their a-shole. I love that magazine but show me one Honda or Acura that someone has, that someone else doesn't have better in another way. They are played out.
But the politics thing, what I meant was this. Do you think it is possible that possibly Honda or any of the other Janpanese mfr. pays SCC and other mags to solely feature the majority of their cars Japanese imports. I mean, it sure as hell means that business would continue to boom for those manufacturers. Look at all the publicity. Now that Hyundai is receiving some attention in the mag, what do you think is going to CONTINUE to happen to Hyundai's sales. They're going to CONTINUE to go through the roof. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

SCC is very "japanese" or at least "Asian" in their car coverage. They usually give short shrift, if anything, to VW's, Hyundai, Chevy's, Pontaics, dodge, etc..etc..etc.. They are mainly Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Mazda and Suby.

The point I love to bring up, but no-one else seems to notice...is how can they cover cars like the 300zx, Supra, and Skyline, but never cover MUSTANGS? The title of the mag is SPORT COMPACT CAR, not SPORT ASIAN CAR. Mustangs, 911's or boxters, Audi's or even Saabs? The are not any bigger than the skyline! Hell, the Skyline IS NOT A COMPACT! The reason? SCC feels that Mustangs/Porches are covered rather well in other publications, and don't feel the need to duplicate the coverage in their mag.

They feel the same way on 90% the "german" cars. As there are many tuning mags for BMW/VW/Audi.

Saab doesn't have enough of a tuning market for them to bother covering, and in the past, neither did Hyundai.

I still think they should change their name to Sport ASIAN car though. Look at their list of project cars. There is only TWO domestics in there. A dodge neon, their newest addition to the fleet, and a *shudder* Ford Focus. Why do they cover the Focus? Because it SELLS. Ford also gave out Foci like frisbee's before they came out to make sure there would be an aftermarket for the Foci. Chalk one up for Ford. Now if we could only get Hyundai to do the same....

Random is right.
The same company that owns SCC also publishes European Car, so that's where the VW's, Audi's, BMW's, Porsche's, Saab's, etc end up.

Mustangs, imo, can't really be considered sport compacts due to thier heft and 8 cylinders.

I think the skyline just gives them woodys. (it sure gets me up, lol)

As for the ****us, i think they just wanna do a rally car, and since they already have a sube (and prolly got it free from ford) they are gonna destroy it in the desert rallying.

Remember, they are trying to sell magazines. If AWD burnouts (thank u mr. mcyintyre) and JDM exotics do it, then so be it.
