Yea, autozone or places like schucks will do it for free. Why buy one, not inless you work on cars all the time. The readers that they use even tell you what sensor is the root cause, not just the code.
if you go to autozone.com type in car chip under search these are really nice units go for the most expensive one they give you alot of readouts about vehicle performance anb also can help out with obdII problems it is a really nice unit i had one until my car got robbed and they stole it
I bought a EMS 323 Code reader of E-bay for $40.00 that plugs into the OBD port on the car and plugs into a laptop. Was the best $40.00 I have spent on my car. And yes the software will tell you what the code means...
