I have a totally stock '97 Accent GT. I've gotten bored with her so I decided it's time I modify the engine to get some more horsepower out of her. I hear that these cars respond well to aftermarket modifications. Can you guys give me a lesson along with a list of modifications that I can make without going broke? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

I was begining to think i had the only 97 GT on this board Anyway your right the engines do respond well to aftermarket parts, the best thing to do to it is the basic CAI, Headers and Catback exhaust, that should run you just under $600. You can then go and get a BBTB and matched intake manifold for about $450. I also just installed the intake cam from the 1.6L DOHC it has a little more lift and is a cheap little upgrade (picked mine up at a junkyard for $25) That is pretty much the basics to start with and it should give you a pretty good kick in the ass.
BTW welcome to the boards

Kustom, whats the butt dyno say about the 1.6L cam? It really fits, eh? Thats good to hear, maybe the 1.6L and 1.5L DOHC heads are the same...

Also, i'd bump up the price for the I/H/E to around 1000, as a good header costs 500 ny itself.

The 1.6L cam fits? That's cool, but why did you only do the intake cam?

You can also get a tibTB. Needs to be modified slighty but it works and you can pick those up pretty cheap at the junkyard.

I was just sayin that 13 out of 5000 some odd members isn't much, so its always nice to get another one
