After doing a little bit of research at work last night using webtech for the 2000 tiburon wiring and the factory shop manual for 97 Hyundai Accent (sohc) & (dohc) i discovered that there is NO DIFFERENCE between the accent pin out and the tiburon pin out...

THE WIRING PINOUT DIAGRAM FOR THE 98 HYUNDAI ACCENT 1.5L POSTED BY BLACK DEVIL IS INNCORECT.. (diagram for the 00 Tib 2.0L is 100% correct)


The only difference between SOHC (1.5L) & DOHC (2.0L or 1.5L) is that the sohc engine does not have

PIN 18 - Canister Close Valve (2.0L & 1.5L DOHC)
PIN 76 - Fuel Tank Pressure sensor (2.0L & 1.5L DOHC)

Every other PIN is identical FOR the 1.5L SOHC, 1.5L DOHC, and 2.0L DOHC

So this mean that other then extending a few wires in the engine bay wiring is NOT an issue... All that has to be done is

1) find the stock ecu and unplug it
2) remove and replace with the 2.0L ecu
3) Plug the ecm harness into the 2.0L ecu
4) Start you beta and enjoy

PROPER IDLE AND NO MORE CEL!!!!!!!! RUNS PERFECT!! Should now also be 100% emmission compliant as it's running proper ecu now!!


Here is the correct diagram.. Same for 96-99 1.5L SOHC & DOHC and 97-02 2.0L

Can someone make this sticky and UN Sticky the INCORRECT info!!!!!!!

The last list of pins I put on there are for the 98 accent and from th e 01 Tiburon. Those are all the same. The 95-97 accent ecus are different from the 98,99 I thought. Perhaps the 97 is (late model?) is the same as the 98-99... Also my sohc 1.5 does have a canister close valve and a fuel tank pressure sensor so does the 01 tib according to webtech!! My comparisons are also both from manual trans. If you compare your diagram (I dont have time to right now) with my list of pins from a 01 tib and a 98 accent and they are the same then the 97 may have the same ecu but I dont think they do or it would have been discovered when drerob wired up some harnesses for tha tyr accent. He said he had not done one with the 98,99 or something. Also they are not exactly the same, the 02 sensor signal and ground are reverse for BOTH o2 sensor. Compare yours with what was found on mine to see if the 97 has the same as the 98-99 though It may be a late model 97 and not early model that is the same....

see that what i said all the guys with x3 here in quebec have don ther sawp with out rREWIRING they put in the beta motor and ecm with he 1.5L Wire Harness, you can also use the 1.5 dohc ecm but 2.0 is you best bet!!

From what I understand as long as its a late model 97 and any 98 99 accent then yes you can drop it right in and swap the 2 o2 sensors signal and ground wires under the hood and your good to go. Im almost positive the 95,96 and early 97 have different ecu harness setups that that of the later models I listed above....

So as long as you use a Beta ECU and rewire those O2 sensors, everything should run fine with no CEL? Interesting... I'm guessing all the plugs underneath the hood are the same, too.

Yeah i can't say for the 98-99 accent for sure as this is going by the 97 Hyundai Accent Shop manuals... so either for for sure on the 96-97 accent the wiring pinout for the tib ecu is identical... I finally got around to having time to do it and it runs beautiful... Started up wicked, no more CEL right off the bat.. With the 1.5L DOHC engine my idle sat around 1600rpm and i couldn't find any way of bringing that down... now with the 2.0L ecu it sits nicly at 900rpm.. havn't taken it on the road to see if there is any difference and that won't happen till all the snow is melted....

You have a late model 97? I think the 96 ecu maybe different.... You just plugged it in and was good to go? Should be the same on the 98-99 except the 02 sensor wires need to be switched... Must of been the same on the 97 meaning its not the same for the 98-99..... The only difference would of been the o2 sensors. I dont understand what all the rewiring was for on the beta swaps in the x3s then....

From what I had understood on these forums and other ones on the net the beta swaps into the 98-99 accent by dropping the motor and tranny in there, hooking it up to the stock harness, and hooking up the beta ecu to the stock harness. Now it's being said that the same can be done for the 96-97, is this true for either, some of you are saying that there is some wiring to do, this is by far the easiest swap I've ever seen on any car(other than making the engine mounts work). I think this post should be made into a sticky so that hopefully this can be sorted out and made official here. Beta swapped Accents are the foundation for all hyundai swaps that could be possible in the future, by mastering them we'll be more capable of figuring out new stuff.

I cant say for sure about 95,96 but he just said he plugged the beta ecu in his 97 and went with it =-) According to webtech on the 98,99 accents you could just plug it right it and reverse the 02 sensor wires (ground and signal should be reversed) for both o2 sensors and go ;-)

is what spikie says for the 97, and the 98-99 is as straight forward as what you just said^^, do you know of anyone who knows more about the 95-96, from what I've understood in the past they share similarities to the x2, scoupe, excel because they are prior to the tibs & elantras, once the tib & elantra were introduced hyundai made the accent more similar to those. I think I'll go do some research in the accent,scoupe, excel section it might give us some answers.

I am also very very interested if there are any differences between 95-96 x3 and late 97-99.

Especially because my accent is from 04.1996 r. 1.5 sohc (Poland, Europe).

Ok, I think I might try this instead of ripping everything out and having it rewired... No sense in doing extra work and paying extra money if the stock harness will work with close to no modification.

So what exactly has to be done to the O2 sensors? I know that the signal and ground wires have to be switched, but what exactly does this mean? I've extended an 02 sensor wire before so I'm pretty confident I can do it, I just need to know which wires I'm doing what with. :ermm:

You just said it, just swap the 02 sensor ground with the o2 signal on BOTH 02 sensors. Do it under the hood it will be much easier than at the ecu....

Can't say much for the 98-99.. I will track down a shop manual and look into as well at the 95-96... as for the 97 model year accent there is no difference in the wiring pinout for the ecu as i stated before...

Well with the link I provided earlier in this post I did a comparision of the 98 accent and the 01 tib ecu's. I got every pin from webtech and they are all the same except those 02 sensor wires ;-)

Okay, so this might seem a bit noobish, but I have no clue which wire is what when it comes to the O2 sensor... Which out of the 4 wires shown here are the signal and ground wire that need to be crossed?

Thought this might make it easier for anyone else that hasn't a clue either. :ermm: Thanks!

If You will find info about 95-96 harness my beta project will begin (first in Poland. yes!)
BTW there are lantra's (j2 and xd) with 1.5 sohc in Poland.
I wonder if this info (engine mounts etc.) has any value for you experts?
