I'm getting one as soon they get here in my area, and I was wondering how much i'll have to pay for insurace, cause my parents are buying me the car, but I gotta pay for the insurance myself. BTW, I'm only 16 and this'll be my first car.

You'll probably get raped on the insurance. Are you going for the 4-cyl or the V6?

The new tibby is classified as a sports car rather than an econobox like the 1st and 2nd gen, so it will be a bit more expensive, especially for a 16 year old.

I've got a 2.7 right now, I bet I could get it up to 3.0. I got a clean record, and yeah, full coverage, and no tickets. I'm a guy btw, I know that affects insurance a little.

About 2 years ago, so I was like 18, my dad was gonna get me a car cuz I was going to college. That day, I was very excited. About 30 minutes of driving, he takes me to the junkyard and tells me, "You can choose any car you want..".....

I would think a '97 Supra TT would be higher on insurance then a Tiburon though.

Although, if it weren't for a couple small factors I would have gotten one this year and store it over the winter. They are under $20k US btw (like try a '96).

Too expensive to have though during the winters of Canada and a tiny garage to store it in.

Depends on the insurance company. Some have different methods for determining how "dangerous" a car is for a young driver. I'd imagine it's still about the same rate as the current Tib (still kinda high). When the WRX came out, some people got plain Impreza rates because that's all the agent had in the computer. Not entirely sure, though.

And don't complain, my insurance doubled when I went from my old Tib to my LS1 T/A. It's worth it, though

BTW, you must have nice parents.

join the club man!! I'm 19 and I bought my first car when i was 18. '75 corvette stingray in bright red. The insurance on that car was so high i drove around for 3 months without one until i could afford it. hahah But some dumbass drunky rearended me so now i got no wheels. If i stay in cali tho, i'm gonna get me the 2003 v6.
If you can't pay for full then just pay for liability. As long as your not stupid and don't race every other car on the street you'll be fine.

I guess since you are only 16, and mom and dad still do everything for you...all you need to do is call up their insurance and ask them. Then call the other majors like Progressive, Geiko...ask your dad what he thinks about how much coverage you need. There are many different levels...from $10k-$400k in liability, and injury, ect.
