I will prove you wrong. There is no way ANY engine, let alone a Honda engine, be so inefficient even if it was automatic (which loses about 15-20% power to wheels from crank)

A 1999-2000 Honda Civic Si only came in 5speed. So, we all(most of us anyways) know that there is a lost of about 10-15% power from the crank to the wheels on a manual transmisson.

160bhp*0.90 = 144whp
160bhp*0.85 = 136whp

The range is 136 - 144 whp. This is confirmed on the many , many dyno charts I have seen. Don't tell me you don't trust dynometers?

Respectively, 140bhp will be a range of about 119 - 126 whp

Of course none of that is exact but it is pretty darn close. Any arguments?

first of all that really wasn't needed b/c stock for stock a tib couldn't beat an si anyway. but i do agree with you that an si would put well over 109whp. but there is always the bad apple of the bunch that runs lower than most.

Actually your numbers are flawed.

The Integra Type R loses about 14% through the tranny, so there's not way in hell the Si only loses 10-15%. I'd guess somewhere around 18-20%

here is my argument. the only way that he can get more horsepower out of it is through different dynamometer because not all of them is not equal. another part of my argument is that as you produce more horsepower you will lose more through the drivetrain. also honda make their power what rpm. can we say 5500(respectively) and beyond. when i was going on my rant also i was referring to the b16 in older hondas and not the new ones because i don't have any dynocharts(i probably do but i am a lazy bastard and don't want to look for them). finally if you subscribe to sport compact car and you have received your december issue they address the manufacterers claims of higher horsepower but they strap cars on dynojet and have way lower numbers and they do a little 10-15% or 15-20% theory of drivetrain loss also(i don't beleive this sometimes)and they strapped integra gsr that usually 170hp got 150 at the wheels and a type r that gets 195hp from the factory gets a 161hp at the wheels. they also teste the new sentra ser specv that has 180hp from the factory only could muster 141 on the dyno. i have some more numbers but i don't feel like typing them but try and understand you can have 300hp out of a turbo b16 but if you can onl;y get 225 at the wheels you better not come up and say you will beat me with a 300hp civic and i got a 4g63t in my scoupe with a few bolt ons and ihave worked on the drivetrain and beat your ass. think up of a better argument because i can go all day throwing numbers at you and i would put you in a stupor.

Just for the record, older B16s and new B16s are the same other than OBD compliance.

scoupe91 it seems to me like you are saying they can't get whp to match bhp? it's not going to match, the only way you can see if manufacturer specs are accurate would be to strap the engine on an engine dyno, but then you arn't getting the power readouts that the car is really making.

there is a civic si around here with madd mods and he can only pull a 17.4 and i don't care how bad of a driver you are a 17.4 is rediculous for a si.

rudy and 4doorgl,
yes that i was getting through rob that they had different computers but almost made the same power if not right on the number. and rudy that was i was getting through that manufacturers put on their spec sheets. they test in their facility the power off of the flywheeel or the smart term is brake horsepower. i was getting to the point and pisses me off so much that people refer to the crank horsepower as the horsepower at the wheels. but what people don't know is that the drivetrain loss add power for the accesories add the power that the computer restricts because of sensor readings and etc. this **** adds up in a hurry and people argue with me. see you guys later and i like to see you rob but i live in pa. that sucks. see ya.

i live in pa heh. yea i figured that's what you were getting at, but it wasn't clear. i too hate when people try to compare whp to bhp, but that's life and you gotta teach people something everyday.
