People judge quality by price, and make assumpitons, and you know what that does!

It also come from the dark ages of Hyundai when the cars were not as great. It is hard to get past that stigma.

The Pony was cheap and ugly, but I understand they had som trouble with the Excel too (1988 or so). I worked for a car magazine here testing cars, and I had this prejudice against korean cars, then I met my girlfriend and she had an Elantra. I begun to use it, and it's truth, Driving is Beleiving! It's a great car at a fair price. Now I own one myself, and her sister got herself an Elantra too, so that makes 3 of us happy with Elantras.

It also didn't help that HYUNDAI bought Mitsibishi engines

Yeah well, Toyota begun decades ago almost copying Hillmans (he, he, he I think that's why the have RHD's in Japan, they didn't bother to switch the sides ) and Hyundai decided to buy technology (it would have been useless to try compete with well established brands since the begining) and improve it. Then they learned how to put a car together efficiently and developed their own technology, but they shortened their learning curve. The same with SUV's. Do you get the Hyundai Terracan in the US?

It was the Excels fault. When Hyundai started building their own engines, their quality greatly improved, however the repuation stood. That poor reputation is slowing diminishing as time goes by and quality gets better.

My 86 RWD Pony was the best. I never got stuck in snow, it never broke down on me and it had well over 100000/km. The only thing I had to changed on it was the exhaust system and the master cylinder.
But then this had to happen too it. A 1999 Grand Prix hit me.

In this crash my collarbone fractured in three places. This happened about 2 1/2 years ago, after that I got the Tib.

Because people only go on hearsay. I too was that way until I test drove her 96 Accent GT. The more we got into the engine the more I got impressed. That's when I sold my Prelude and got an Accent
