Hall woos Hyundai

Dayton - Rep. Tony Hall met with chairman of the Hyundai Motor Co. as part of a trade mission to South Korea to encourage Hyundai to locate its first U.S. assembly plant in Ohio, the Dayton Daily News reported Thursday.

Hall, D-Ohio, spent Wednesday with Hyundai officials and an hour with Hyundai Chairman Chung MOng Koo, according to Rick Carne, Hall's chief of staff.

"We discussed a great deal about the merits of Ohio as a receiver site for what will be the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility," Carne told the Daily news.

During Hall's trip to South Korea in 1998, Hall spent time with Hyundai founder Chung Ju Yung, Carne said.

Last month Gov. Bob Taft traveled to South Korea to try to lure Hyundai to Ohio. Although Taft won't confirm he visited Hyundai, several other officials have, including a company spokesman.

State officials have identified Wapakoneta in Northwest Ohio and Mount Orab in Southern Ohio as potential sites.

Hyundai, South Korea's largest carmaker, makes the Accent, Elantra, and Sonata, among other vehicles.
