Hyundai reliabilty.

Okay I have a 2001 tibby with lots of mods including nitrous. when my clutch went at 5000 miles I was a little freaked out. We all love our cars and we all hook them up with mods, but have any of us wondered about the strength of our engines or drivetrain? How much abuse can these cars really take? I see lots of hooked up hondas around my house and they even run into problems after you cross a certain line of performance. It seems that we love to make our tibbys faster and faster but where is the fine line of reliabilty and too much performance. does anyone here have a highly modified tibby that is a least a 97 or so, and how does it still run with abuse?

The stock rods can theoretically take about 240whp before running into problems. The valves and valve springs and pistons are around 300hp, the crank is yet to go on any of them.

The tranny is the bitch of the car. You have to be careful with your differential and your driveshafts anywhere above 200whp.

BTW you have a way to go before you hit 200whp

the hyundais seem to have very very strong engines. i run my car sooooooo hard all the time. i got 50k miles on my 98 accent. so far i am yet to have one problem with this car in any way. i love this car. it even handles the abuse from the 55 shot of zex with no problem although i am careful. i dont think reliability is a question with hyundais. they are reliable. maybe you just cant drive and thats why you trashed your clutch???????????

did you just lose to an auto 4spd? i think you did...
Okay I'm sure I'm close to 200 whp, With bbt, hedder cai, cams, nitrous, etc.. 2nd maybe the problem is that when I race, I race my car like a man, also you have an accent, it has 90 hp. lets see 200 whp compared to 90 going through the clutch that could be the problem.
I have all the same mods that you have. Intake, exhaust, 252° cam, 65 SHOT nitrous, throttle body, etc... and I just passed 22,000 miles on my 2K. Not to mention my entire suspension has been ripped out, and I ride on air now. I have had absolutely ZERO issues with my Tib. Although my car is mostly set up to be a full show winner, I'm also just like IR2....a hardcore street racer! *lol* Anyway....I'm at the dealer alot and I keep in contact with most of the mechanics and they all say the same thing. Hyundai engines are built to last and withstand alot.
