I have a 97 Tibby FX and every once in a while when I'm going at a normal speed like 55-60 mph and put it to the floor I can feel the motor surging like it's not getting enough gas, but the rpms keep going up just fine. I'm thinking that the fuel pump could be going bad <img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>
Also sometimes when I'm stopped at a stop light and the motor is just ideling it sometimes quits all by it's self. Could all this have to do with the pump going bad <img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle> I'm just guessing the pump could be bad, could someone tell me what's going on.

could be clogged or something, does sound like a fuel problem though.

Could be bad plugs,wires,air filter or a clogged injector(s) also.

could also be the TPS (throttle position sensor) it could have gone bad!!! happened to me!!!

If you've got a 97, I would replace your fuel filter first. They should be changed every 20 to 30,000 miles.

Then check your coilpack and sparkplug wires, then the TPS. Fuel pumps rarely go bad...but it can happen.

Leave it to Random to Needlessly complicate things.

Random is right on the money. Replace the fuel filter. I had a similar problem with my Jeep. I ll be driving and when I try to accelerate, the thing would stutter and sound like it didnt have enough gas. I replaced the filter a couple times. After almost giving up, I brought it in one last time. Then a mechanic told me from personal experience w/ a Jeep to use a FRAM filter. He was right. It fixed it. Try that. If that don't work, something might be in the line.
