Hey I'm just 16 and new to this world here. I just got a 99 Accent Gsi and I'd like to know how much horsepower these get stock? I'd also like to know how much horsepower increase I can get by adding a cold air intake and an exhaust? What kind of times do they get on the track? and is a supercharger a good investment for it?

Thanks guys

PS: you can see my car on my website www.geocities.com/bballplaya31

a cold air intake(k&n) will give you a bit more pep(and make the car a bit louder)..I'm not sure on how much of a power increase..as far as what your cars out put is stock...if its a SOHC it'll be 92hp(as was mine)..I'm not sure if the DOhC takes ya over 100hp or not

Went to the site....

Those wheels are tight (too big for my tastes, but then again i don't want my wheels+tires weighing more than 30 pounds). Lose the graphics tho. Its just too ricey imo.

Track times... My 2001 runs low 17's to high 16's, traction dependent. I have the 1.6L DOHC (it has the same power tho, 105 hp and 106 lb. feet, but i'm heavier).

CAI and exhuast- go for it. You should get about 10-15 more horses with a full exhuast and CAI, as the stock units are restrictive as all hell.

Supercharger- of course its worth it, as long as you're willing to fork out the $$. I'd go turbo myslef, but to each thier own.

BTW, welcome to the boards, and feel free to search around and ask questions if you can't find them in said search.

beta swap this means putting an engine from a tib/elantra (2.0L beta) into your accent. much more potent engine, and then u can build it and put a turbo/s/c on it later. plus its cheaper than a while turbo/s/c kit, and ud need to build the sohc/dohc to really do anything with forced induction. check the hybrid forums for more details

Ahh, icic.

Black devil- there is no reason why you can't make a bolt on turbo or supercharger kit for the accent, as there are already three or four available.

Uhm again I am not trying to be a smart ass but some of you may think I am. Oh well.

Sup man? Before you start tuning you have to figure out exactly how much money you have to spend, how much you want to spend, and how much your parents will let you do to the car.

To answer some questions for you though.

2.0 beta swap = aprox $2000
Turbo setup done right, installed and tuned. = aprox $4000
(both of which the average parent will not let their kid do and the average kid does not have the money to do.)

Now if you want to go alot cheaper and go for something that your parents will probably allow then try these

Ease your parents into the mods by making the car a lil safer 1st by working on the suspension

Strut tower braces $150 and these are simple to install and have no negative drabacks.

Lowering springs $200-$300 plus installation if you can't do it yourself.

Rims and tires depending on what you get lets just say $1000

Cold Air Intake (CAI) $200 and is easy to install

Full Catback $400

Header $400

The I/H/E setup will add aprox 10-15hp

If you want to keep going there are several other mods you can do that will run you under $500 a pop and will give you a lil bit of a boost and make the car more fun to drive. Realistically I just don't see the average 16yr old kid doing an engine swap and Turbo especially when he has already said that he is just starting to learn.

Again I am not trying to bash you but instead I am trying to point you in the right direction. If you are one of those few luck kids who has the money and parents that will allow him to spend $10,000+ on a car then I am sorry.

just for curiousity's sake, how much does a 99 tibby weigh relative to my 99 accent(I would assume my accent is lighter)...if both are 5spds, the tibby engine would be more fuel efficient in an accent to, no?

The accent is about 500lbs lighter. This will help to increase acceleration and yes it will make a difference in economy. But if economy is what you are after then just keep the accent motor.

I agree with autobot, hence your at such a young age, mommy and daddy might not like it if you fix up your car in such a professional manner, Rather, I suggest the mods he suggested for now, Get a feel for your car, Because once you slap a turbo in your car its like learning how to drive all over again. And you being 16, might not have any driving expirance as it is. So just get a feel for things as of now, then, upgrade when allowed.

Where do I find stuff to fix up my 2000 Accent? The only place I can find anything is Sharkracing.com and they don't have much. Anyone got any good places for me to buy intake headers and exhaust? Thanks so much.
