OK, so I've been doing some work recently on my 2003 Elantra. After taking the plastic engine cover off, it seems as if there is only a spot for one cam on the top of the engine (I have the 1.6L motor). Also, look on the timing belt cover, there is an indentation for one cam wheel. Look in the pic, and you will see what I'm taking about, it's a side view from the right though. (Not my pic, IGNORE THE RED STUFF) One circular area for one cam. Am I going crazy, or is there only one cam?

no there are two cams. the timing belt only turns one sprocket. that is correct but there is a sprocket on the other end of one of the cams that turns the other cam. stupid yes. dohc yes. a cam on an sohc is usually in the middle and wouldn't be off to one side.
