Kid thinks his cars hot sh*t

Thiers this kid that goes to my school and he has a 98 honda civic sohc with an intake, header, and exhaust. Hes real cocky because he has a full body kit and other stuff to make his car look good. My question is if i race him do i have a chance? Both of our cars our auto matic and my mod list consists of intake, coolant bypass mod, underdrive pulley. The only reason i think i have a chance is because of all the extra weight he has in his car. So what do u guys think? I really dont wanna race him if im going to get smoked cause that would just be embarassing, buthe talks so much sh*t on my hyundai just like everyone else in the world and i just wanna shut them up.

I'd try it... Even if he does beat you, he has extra mods on top of yours... Not to mention less torque...
Spank him...for all of us.
Just tell him you are curious to see how your car does against a modded honda. That way if you do lose, you wont look too bad since yuou just wanted to see what your car can do. And if you win then he goes home, turns the water in the bathroom on and cries so no one can hear him.

let us know
Yeah you should be pretty fairly matched. Will be interesting to hear the outcome.
If you want you can borrow my engine and whip his a55!!! jk:D
The Wytch Says: Accent FTW ;): Run him with an 1/8 a tank and clean your car out. Shave a tenth or two. ;):
Also maybe drop the pressures in the tyres up front; a bit more grip since you prolly won't have the time to get them nice and hot.
Don't drop under about 30psi though or you'll lose contact pressure in the center of the tread on typical street radials and lose traction.
That and its an auto accent

no traction problems there :ermm:

Unfortunately, that is wayyyy too true...
Don't forget to reset your ECU just before you race him. maybe 10-15min before no more. More fuel will be going to your engine will help.
I lost .3 tenths of a second after reseting my accents ecm at the track. Cut the same 60ft time and temps dropped a little. His automatic has that fuzzylogic learning crapola. Id say leave the ecm alone with an accent. Elantras on the other hand get a NICE gain from a reset. Maybe my accent was strange :ermm:
Torque brake while waiting to take off to get the best possible launch for your automatic.

I agree...I've gotten the best launches doing that (common sense..). But don't launch it with the highest RPM's possible with the brakes on...I've had better launches from lower RPM's. I'll figure out tomorrow where the optimal launch RPM range is (as optimal as the autotragic will let it be...) and I'll let you guys know.
sorry guys but now the kid wont race me, but thanx alot for all the tips
He's scared...muaha.

Anyway, for reference...I did some experimenting tonight, and I figured out that you can only brake-torque to 3k RPM's, and the best launch possible is obtained when brake-torqued to around 2-2.75k RPM's.
