I had just picked up my car at the dealer, after some serious repair work on the front suspension (slid into a curb in dec..), and I was cruising around town to see how the car handled. I noticed that the car in front of me was a nice red honda prelude, a 95 model I gues. We came up to a set of trafficlights and the prelude moved to the right lane and I stopped beside him in the left lane. The weather was nice but cold, and it had rained some hours earlier.

The light turned green and mister prelude totaly forgot about the wet road and spinned its wheels way to much. That was enough for me, so I eased out the clutch and made a nice clean launch. At the end of 1st gear we were side by side and at the end of 2nd gear he was half a car length in front of me. We hit 3rd gear at he started to pull hard on me. Damn. But if you can't win on hp alone then you got to get ugly.
He was in the right lane and slow traffic came up fast, so he had to lift the throttle for a moment and get behind me in the left lane. Yes...

Conclusion: My luck was that he couldn't launch his car on a wet road. If I tried this on a dry day he would have roasted my ass bad.

And this was my first race against a prelude!! My compliments to the owner, it was a nice clean car, no stickers/logos or farty tincan exhausts.

my friend has a 95 prelude 5-spd, I want to race him in my 2001 stock tib, but I think he might beat me.

You were hotdoggin around and slammed into a curb.
You get the car out of the shop then race in the rain.
You then proceed to "get ugly" in traffic.

Will you never learn?
What would you have done if he decided to be an idiot and try to edge you out? Would you have slammed on the brakes? Kind of hard to make a good stop on wet ground as your speeding through traffic.
Since you slammed your car into a curb the way you did I will not assume that you are a great driver.

I am not trying to be an ass cause I have street raced in the past and will probably do it again. But never in the rain. No matter what it is not safe but there are conditions that make it even less safe.

I just don't want to see anyone get hurt.

My first wreck was in the rain. I "glided" over a small island turning the corner and broke the left axle. I was new to driving and not very careful. I also recently got hit in the rear while stopped, by a stupid woman not being careful in the rain.
Now, I'll admit that I'm scared to drive in the rain. Seriously, I hate it.

Yeah racing in the rain was not a very good idea in the first place. Not just singling you out. I am talking to anyone who would race in the rain. Reaction times are really bad because of the slickness its just as bad as driving drunk if you ask me.

Nope.. Streetracing is not the most legal of sports that exist. By participating in it, you have to make decisions what risks to take and when to take them. In hindsight some of those decisions may not have been the best ever made, that I agree. But that is the game.

And it was a prelude. They are not very common where I live, so I had to take my shot or wait for another 6 months or so before the next opportunity.

I live in the Netherlands. If it doesn't rain, then that is because it just stopped. And then it will be raining again in an hour or so. Damn the climate over here.

Racing in the rain is a good thing because it brings out the driver's best skill...but it should be done only on the track because if another driver on the street panics he will be the one to slide and hit you...or others who are not involved in your little competition.

Me...I love the rain. Because in the rain it doesnt matter if you have a Civic, an Integra, a Tibby or whatever...the bottom line in the wet is either you know how to drive or your dont, and it's gonna show.

make a game out of it...head to the track on a rainy day and see who can post the best times, and stop as close to the line as possible after 12 laps!Your skill will improve, and you wont be afraid of the rain anymore because you know how to handle it! In the end, learning wet control will make you a better and SAFER driver!
