My car is basically dead. Won't stay running, at 1500RPM the car just stutters and dies. Lots of smoke coming from the exhaust when it is near dying. Replaced the fuel filter cause it seemed like it wasn't getting enough gas and it didn't work. Now the car has to go to the dealer where I will probably get raped.

Yeah it's still under warranty but they always try to rape me at the dealer. They all suck around here. I am thinking it might also just be a bad sensor.

Ok well the dealer is trying to screw me. They are telling me that my car is out of warranty.

Can anyone else explain to me that if the engine doesn't start that it would be covered under the bumper to bumper warranty and not the powertrain warranty? The dealer is telling me that because my car has over 60,000 miles that it is out of warranty.

Now I am thinking that because the engine won't start and won't stay running that it would be covered under the powertrain warranty. I am wrong?

Well so far the dealer has tried to screw me but they have failed...turns out that an O2 sensor was bad, and they tried to charge me 552.00 to replace it. But I looked on the web and turns out that they weren't counting on my bringing up the fact that the car has an 8 year 80,000 mile emissions warranty. The sensor fell under this. Still waiting to hear back if it runs better. My spark plugs were apparently covered in oil.

Well update on my car. They have determined that my engine may in fact be blown. The service manager said that the computer is giving them all kinds of bad readings such as low compression. Will possibly be getting a new engine.

Just wondering if I should be worried about the reliability of the rest of the components on my car now that the motor may be blown. They service department guys said that last week alone they replaced 3 motors in LC Accents.

A couple of questions...

Did you abuse the car. i.e. Constantly race, redline the engine, etc?

Neglected to perform proper maintance on it?

But 60,000 miles on the car? Are you sure thats not a typo. That sure is a hell of a lot of miles to put on a car in 1 year. I have a 2000 Elantra and have 18,000 on it. 60,000 miles is severe wear and tear on the engine since I assume it was constantly used. hmm. Strange situation.

I have had the car almost 2 years. It's not a typo. And most of that is highway driving. No I didn't abuse the engine, and it had regular maintenance, since it had so many miles on it I think it rarely had dirty oil in it for a really extending period of time, because I had to do oil changes just about every month.

Well I went to the dealer today to get some things out of the car and now they say that it isn't oil on the plugs but burnt fuel.

burnt fuel makes more sense with a bad O2 sensor. If the engine is really blown, has it been an oil burner? did you baby it until it was broken in? Just curious.

And with that kind of troubleshooting skills (oil...oops, gas)(hey, isn't this the same stuff as was on those other three engines?) I think I would be more worried about the mechanics at the dealership than the quality of the rest of your car

Well they thought it was the ignition coil, and they replaced that and it didn't work. So the technicians were all standing around and someone mentioned to check the gas. Well guess what.

The car has Fvcking Diesel Gas in it. For most that don't know here in Oregon we don't pump our own gas so I will be going after someone. not to mention my car is completely warranty less now. It has nothing.

holy crap! really sorry to hear about that dude. But yeah, that is definately NOT covered under warranty. Find the person that did this to your sweet baby. And then trail em to court, where you will sue their butt... get yourself at least 5000 bucks to cover the fact that you were without the car for a while and that hindered your personal life and blah blah blah... then as you are warrantyless anyway, swap in the 2.0. Anyway, that's what I'd do for sure. just my 2cents...

btw good luck with all this, I know you put alot of work on your car. I can't beleive someone would be dimwitted enough to do this!!!!!!!!!

Thanx for the support...I have to go in to the dealer in the morning and get a sample of the gas to take to the station that filled my car. I don't know what course of action I am taking yet but you can bet someone is gonna pay for this ****.

Well we talked to the gas station and they are admitting full responsibility for it. Now it's just a matter of working out the paperwork I guess.

Cool! Glad the gas station is taking full responsiblity. Makes life so much easier.

See if you can upgrade the engine and pay the difference, either the 16v DOHC Accent engine or an Elantra/Tib engine
