My LC2

Hello, I've got an 05 Accent GT 5spd, and I'm looking on doing minor mods in order to make it a little more me. First off, for more power... I figured I'd do the easy stuff, like a big bore throttle, CAI. possibly a header swap. Although I'm a fiend for a ferris wheel, I just can't see throwing $3G into my daily driver, and lose the warranty. Mainly I just want to open it up a bit, Possibly exhaust if I can find a good, throaty sounding setup that isn't too loud, or too ricey looking. I'd also like to throw the Shark Racing ECU on it, mainly for the opened rev limiter. Besides that It's all about handling. I'm figuring throwing sway bars, and bushings on it. Most likely the first suspensio
n components will be either the sway bars, or the F&R tower braces. I'll also probably throw the Eibach Springs or the Shark Coilovers on it. (or a combo of the two if that's possible. One of the biggest things I want to do though is lose the rear drums. I hate drums with a firey passion... so I'm thinking of doing a 4-wheel tibby hub swap. that then means more aftermarket for X-Drilled/slotted rotors, and a better rim selection with the 5 lug. Exterior I'm not going to do much... possbly repaint it, since it's got the paint from the factory sucks. and it's a terrible silver. Then the easy 'ghetto' mod's (clear corners, lighting color and brightness changes, and possibly a mesh grill, and a semi-debadging) Also a CF front diffuser, possibly canards, if I really need hem more than I can stand the attention from them. I may also modify the factory wing to get a little more downforce out of it. The interior will stay fairly stock. I'm going to throw tibby buckets up front for more side hugging support, a fairly extensive stereo, and a short shifter. I might do racing harnesses, but I doubt it. Like I said this will still be my daily driver... I just want something with a little more prowess when attacking the local touges. That also means a new lutch may be in order. So here's where I need help. I'm a Nissan guy, so having a Hyundai with limited aftermarket support has me slightly flustered about what to use and where to get it.
So here goes the extensive list of knowledge that I lack, and opefully you can help educte me with.
1: Is the Shark racing throttle body worth the money?
2: I've read that you can use a non-turbo Eclipse CAI with minor modification, and it'll work fine. What is the year range I should be looking for, and will any non-turbo Eclipse intake work? I'm looking at the Injen CAI, and I was wonderingif it would work as well or if there was a specfic CAI that works, or doesn't?
3: Is the Shark racing Header worth the money?
4: Are there any aftermarket solutions to my Exhaust query, or should I just build a custom exhaust?
5: Is the Shark Racing ECU worth the money? (keep in mind, I wouldn't send them the core, since I'd still want it for warranty reasons)
6: What are the best swayars and bushing options on the market?
7: Are the Shark Strut braces worth the money?
8: Can the Eibach springs be used in conjunction with the Shark racing coilovers. Would I need them. I like the spring rate of the Eibachs, but I don't know about the Shark springs.
9: How available are the Tibby hubs, and how much do they run normally.
10: How available are the Tibby seats, and how much do they run normally.
11: I read that an LC short shifter will work in the LC2, but who makes one?
12: Is the Shark clutch woth the money.

Now I know I've cotradicted myself alot with wanting warranty on some things, but still willing ti sacrifice stuff like the clutch and wheel hub's. but any and all help/info/suggestions are appreciated.

1. dunno
2. 95-99 non turbo eclipse. i wouldn't go with a name brand just get a cheap one from ebay. you are going to have to cut it up anyway.
3. not really
4. http://evofusionusa.com/TeamSR/Hyundai/00accent-catback.html
5. maybe. don't know of anyone that has tried it
6. whiteline sway bars. SR has bushings
7. evofusionusa.com also has strut bars for less i believe
8. no
9. check car-part.com
10. check car-part.com. i have black leather seats from an 03 tib gt. got them for 150
11. yes the LC short shifter which is the same as an 01+ elantra short shifter. B&M, TWM, OBX. check ebay
12.if it is the VHR clutch then yes.

also check http://kspec.com for parts. your car is listed as the 03-05 Verna on kspec. they have awesome service and so does evofusion from what i hear.

oh yea... welcome to the boards.

1. I don't know either. Most people who bought it said they got more throttle response but no more power.
2: Any should work, but the Cosmo Racing CAI will bolt in with no cutting.

3: No. You can get in on the header prebuy from evofusion though for $300 shipped.
http://www.evofusionusa.com/TeamSR/Hyundai/00accent-header.html
4: Yeah, the link Ryan gave you.
5: Probably not if you're keeping the core. $585 is a bit steep. Have you looked into a Powerchip?
http://www.powerchipgroup.com/interact/datasheets/datasheets_two.asp?pid=Hyu0034
6: See Ryan's post.
7: Get your front strut tower braces here:
http://www.evofusionusa.com/TeamSR/Hyundai/00accent-strutbar.html
8: Nope. And don't get the SR coilovers. Look at these Ksport units:
http://www.hyundaiperformance.com/forums/topic.php?t=62118
9: Don't switch to the 5 lug. Rim options are better for you now. Our rims exchange with Civics as well as several other popular cars. If you're looking for a good swap read this:
http://www.hyundaiperformance.com/forums/topic.php?t=73257
10: See Ryan's post, and watch the "For Sale" forum here.
11: Like Ryan said there are a lot of options. You can even look in the shop.hyundaiperformance.com link in the upper right.
12: Depends on what you're doing to your car. I would say not until it needs replaced anyways. I have had no problems with my clutch holding ever. It's a good unit, just not a good upgrade for what you get on a nearly stock car IMO.
[/body]
i had to cut off a piece of the battery tray to fit the cosmo CAI in, the small part that the factory airbox bolts down to. other than that, the cosmo CAI works and sounds good.

Thought I'd throw an update on my plans to my thread.

Nothing's really happened with it yet since I've been trying to decide to get a Spec V or keep this one. I think I'm going to Re-fi my Accent, and enjoy having a fun cheap car rather than a fun not-so-cheap one. So plans so far are as follows...

Cosmetic:
-Clear corners, side markers, and clear tail corners.
-Mesh grill (done right this time. last time was a quick job I had to do since the paint on my bars was peeling.)
-17x7.5" Black Racing Flat Black Pro N1's with 205/40R-17 Falken Ziex ZE 512's
-EvoFusion Carbon Fiber Hood.
-Tri-Color forward lighting. (Yellow Fogs, Hyperwhite Headlights, and Bright Blue Running lights)
-Windows tinted (Rear-5%, 1/4 glass-5%, front-35%, windshield-45% with 5% banner)
-Carbon Fiber Front Diffuser
-possibly thinking of doing a two-tone paint job, with the factory charcoal metallic above the stock silver. Not sure what color I’d want to pinstripe it with though
*I don’t know if I want to throw the Verna emblem on it or if I want to shave them altogether.

Drivetrain:
-Custom built CAI.
-Headers. (not sure where from yet though)
-Full NGK upgrade. (wires, plugs, etc.)
-Shark Racing VHR clutch set.
-B&M Short Shifter.
-Shark Racing Poly motor mounts
-Custom oil catch can
*Also, still thinking about building a turbo, but I'm not sure. I also want to find someone who can reprogram my ECU to eliminate the 120 mph speed governor, and possibly stretch the redline out a bit.

Suspension/Brakes:
-K-Spec Coilovers.
-Shark Racing front & rear strut tower braces.
-Whiteline Racing Swaybars.
-Shark Racing Poly Bushing Kit.
-GK Tiburon SE wheel hub assemblies and brakes.
-Cross Drilled/Slotted factory Rotors.
-Custom brake air-ducts.
*Also thinking of possibly putting in a mid brace/harness bar. I may think about building my own 3 pt. front strut brace or modifying the Shark Racing piece. I might want to go wih a big brake kit, but the factory SE brakes should be more than enough, especially once they're slotted/vented. it'd be more for shock and awe. Not sure how well they'd fit behind 17's though.

Interior:
-GK Tiburon GS buckets.
-LC2 GLS gauge cluster
-Hoyt Technologies in-car camera system.

*I kinda like the idea of the PAC SK1S Shift Knob, because there’s nothing worse than trying to change stations when the light turns green. Plus it might make touge runs a little more enjoyable. Kinda hard to skip a song you’re not quite feeling when you’re busy rev-matching, and setting up for the next hairpin, you know? I’d have to paint it though…too ricey as is. Linky: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-GVYIq34Qum2/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=229650&I=127SK1S

Stereo (technically part of the interior, but the list is kinda extensive, so…:
-Alpine IVA-D100 (in-dash DVD)
-Alpine PXA-H701 9 (Dolby 5.1 Processor)
-Kenwood KFC-P507 (5-1/4" component speakers -front)
-Kenwood KFC-1389ie (5-1/4" 3-way speakers -rear)
-Alpine SBS-0715 (Center channel speaker with amplifier)
-Alpine MRP-F250 (40W x 4 Amplifier)
-Alpine MRP-M450 (220W x 1 Sub Amplifier)
-Kenwood KGC-4042A (Equalizer)
-Q-Logic QLH-1.0010SS (Single 10” sealed/vented sub enclosure)
-Alpine SWE-1042 (10" 4-ohm sub)
-Alpine TUE-T151 (TV tuner)
-Alpine TUA-T500HD (HD radio receiver)
-Sirius SIR-ALP1 (Sirius receiver kit)
-Alpine KCE-422i (iPod cable)
-Alpine KCA-420i (iPod control interface)
*eventually I’d love to have the Eclipse AVN7000 but due to price I’ll have to settle for the Alpine.

That’s about all I can think about, as for now, but I’m sure more things will come up. I’ve always loved modding cars, and this is my blueprint for this one. Of course some things will change with the pace of technology making modifications outdated. Overall it should be interesting to see if I can pull it off though.

My hope is to go from this:

To this:

(forgive my ghetto 30min. Chop, but it’ll work for now)

Any and all input is appreciated. Thanks.

You have a 120mph limiter? I hit 130+ a couple of weeks ago in my 03 Accent GT.
when you want to do your clear corner lenses - hit me up

I think I'm one of 2 people to have them

Yeah... it only gets over 120 going downhill. :( It climbs to 120mph just fine, then stops. Screws me when I'm racing on the freeway, but it's small and agile, so I can squeeze between cars better than most, and keep my speed up while doing so. ;) I've held it at full throttle for 30 secs. on a long flat straightaway on the 15 and still it just held at 120. I dunno.

The corners, or the side running lights/reflectors?

Plenty of people have the clear corners, but not too many have the sides done.

asshat.
I've got a Big Bore Throttle Body and a matched Ported/Polished Intake Manifold for sale if you want. I never installed the manifold, but I had the TB on for like 10 mins, and it was siiiiick. You can e-mail me at [email protected], or catch me on AIM at attist178.

Why? just cause I've raced on the freeway? You're telling me you haven't? Wow, that's a bummer. I don't do it regularly, in fact, I think the last time I ran anyone on the freeway was me and my buddy in his WRX, after one of our meets. (well, it was more like me trying to keep up than a race) I never do it in heavy traffic, and I know my limits, and the car's too. I've also got a good eye for finding holes. I can tell when one's opening/closing and I'm alert to people making lane changes. I know very well that things can still go wrong, and that's why I never drive at 100%. Ever. I know what I'm doing while I'm doing it, and I know the possible reprocussions. I'd also take myself out, before an innocent driver. Like I said... it's not that often, and it's only when someone's pushing me. I never start it. I just finish it. Well... most of the time. :ermm: if you're one of those "take it to the track" guys... *sigh* consider your words ignored... I've debated on those grounds enough as it is.

*done ranting/protecting my goods*

how about the two town Grey.. but the dark grey on the bottom. It'll be a lot easier to keep the car looking clean because of all the crap you spalash when you drive, just a thought.
nobody drives like a saint, me included.

I just don't take too kindly to seeing 'squeeze between cars' and 'racing on the freeway' put together. especially when in most cases, someone else pays the ultimate price.

I know you're probably not considering the ECU anymore, but if you do end up raising the rev limiter by other means you may need reinforcement to the valves/retainers and maybe rods and cylinder walls.

Well... like I said... I try to take all things in consideration. Known, and unknown. Like I said, I never drive more than 8/10. What I mean by squeeze between is enough to keep momentum going while leaving at least a yard on either end to spare, plus with lane widths, I'm typically in both lanes before I'm between cars. I'm just saying my Accent can squeeze between cars better than Vettes and Firebirds.

About the ECU/Rev limiter... I know, and I don't think I'd do too much with it... It's just when I'm wiinding out 2nd, it doesn't go as far as I know it could. I'd just like to be able to hit 7k.

Oh, and yesterday morning a smoked a black DC2 on the 91W in your honor. ;) Sorry if I came accross as a dousche. I'm just tired of people who aren't in my car when I'm driving, judging the way I do it. I know my limits, and I know my car's limits. Just as I'm sure you do too. Nothing personal.

Next order of buisness...

I thought about that, but If I'm doing a CF hood, and dark tinting, it might look better with the top dark. Besides... I wash my car a few times a week at work anyways.

FYI: I'm a paint shop admin. at one of the largest producing independantly owned/operated body shops in SoCal. (so having it painted won't cost me a dime. ;) well... except materials, but I get them at cost.)

lmao! I wont lie that made me laugh.

and knowing your limits is key.. my style of driving comes across as crazy to some people and I tell them that I know my limits, and that i'm always well within them. (so I know i'm not taking risks and not endangering others).

savy here.

paint looks pretty cool.
brakes like that would be overkill and a half though. ;):
