I can't describe how much this sucks. I left work to find my beautiful, black, 2 DAY old Tiburon halfway submerged on a flooded street. My first NEW car. My first NICE car. My first 2 days of owning [email protected]#&* Water inside was above the seats. Most everything still works. Since there isn't much actually damaged on the car, Insurance isn't likely to do much for me. I'm afraid that I'll be stuck with wet rotting carpet and wet *%#Jacked up leather seats. Has anyone had to deal with flooding? Is there anything that can be done to dry out the seats and preserve the leather?

I agree though, if you have damage, insurance should pay for it. No matter if it's a lot or just a little bit. That's why you pay for it!! I would find out asap because you never know, you could be on your way to your tib how it was when you bought it. Good luck!!

You could always get out a hair dryer and sit there for a couple of hours making sure everything is fully dried!

I woul be mad as hell if i ever had that happen to me. But only for awhile b/c insurance will have to pay, regardless if it is little damge. Damaging leather seats is not cheap money. If that happened to me, i would be mad at first, but then i would start picturing myself with some racing seats and custom design carpet. But that is not me, so sorry to hear about your car i hope everything works out for you.

Hey all,
Thanks for the sympathy and advice. I'll get the damage estimate from the dealer tomorrow. I'll let you know the prognosis. So far, the insurance guy has been nice and rosy...
How's this for shocking? The heat shield on the hood was soaked. The air filter was soaked. So the engine was submerged, AND sucked in water. It started and ran 20 miles to the dealer anyway. If this thing survives, I'll be real impressed with the Beta!
freddy_00_69 , I don't know how Allstate feels about giving me racing seats, but hey, now's the time to ask, right?

I'm sorry to hear that, but in a way im glad to hear that the car survived, see, I live in miami and we do have an occasional occurance of floods, specially now that it's hurricane season. So again, sorry to hear and don't let up with the insurance company.

Greetings all, I've an update from the land of swimming cars. Just so's you know, the water inside was barely high enough to fill coin holder.
I started out thinking that this was a mostly cosmetic issue. I have been told that this is pretty much the worst thing that can happen to a car, and it will probably NEVER BE THE SAME. Crap! The latest and greatest details from the dealer are: new carpet and/or pad, maybe new seats, new airbag system, headlights, door speakers, inspect/replace all wiring on or near the floor, lube everything that moves. Still no diagnostic computer, so I don't know how severe the engine/emission damage is. The dealer repair guy summed it up nicely. Very expensive, Very long time. 2 weeks minimum. By the time I get back in my car, I'll be in great shape from riding my bike everywhere! This blows. ML

Final entry all. The water damage turned out to be pretty minor. The labor though was unbelievable. Parts: $2265, labor: $1297 plus about $500 to repaint a bumper scratch that the body shop put in. I'm sure they'll add it to the insurance claim. The upshot is, my car will be fine in the long run.....once I get it back from the dealer. Those losers just can't seem to finish a job. I've owned my Tib since Aug 18. I've been driving it for 5 days. I've been on their loaner for 13 days. As far as I can tell, my Tib has been sitting around, waiting for someone to work on it for a total of 10 days (around a 25 day repair). A comment on their loaner, all of you 2002 Accent owners, you have my sympathy! Have you noticed that the car comes to a screeching halt when you turn on the AC? I'm looking forward to getting my Tiburon back tomorrow!

Great news man!

And yeah, we think of the AC button as a turbo boost button .

As long as the engine wasnt running when it was submerged, water shouldnt get sucked in.. because theres air in the intake and throttle body. It's the same principle as if you take a glass and hold it upside down and submerge it in that postion you will have that air pocket inside that glass, even though it could be 20' under (although the air will compress a little)
And I would think the throttle body would be closed when not running (not positive) and I have no idea if Tb's are watertight when closed
But yes, good luck...
you know I'd be pissed and demand a brand new car from the insurance...
you'd get one if the engine hydrolocked.
