Hey everyone. I just bought a '99 Elantra 5-speed from a buddy who had it pop a head gasket, took it apart, then didn't want to finish it.

Anyway, I've got a couple questions:

-Is there a write-up on how to time the car?
-Is it bad to deck the head/will it screw up the timing?
-Any tips for a Hyundai newbie on how to do it or is there a good site for tech?

Also, I've been searching and it looks like there's a site called "Webtech" but I need login information for it? Any info on that?

I'm usually a Pontiac guy, but this seems like it'd make a great daily driver, especially with the 5 speed :D

Sorry for all the questions, but Hyundais are new ground for me. Haha.

Welcome to the family. As for Webtech you can go to http://www.hmaservice.com/partner_plan/PageRenderer.action?actionName=ppShowRegistrationForm and sign up for an account then you access all the technically goodness for your new car. Everything you need to know about timing should be answered in there. I have no experience doing any head work on a beta motor so I have no idea about that one. Hope I was of some assistance and good luck with your project.
