A good friend of mine just called in tears. She's been talking to this guy online for like 2 years. He lives in Florida and was planning in moving here to NY soon. She really liked him. They exchanged pics and everything. They've never talked on the phone or met in person. So she was talking to him online today and he was real distant towards her. She asked what was wrong and he came clean and said he was a girl. It turned out to be a prank in a chat room one day, 2 years ago, and she just kept going with it pretending to be a guy. Now my friend is extremely upset, and I personally feel like hunting this person down and showing them that it's not right to mess with people's emotions or head like that. It's been going on for 2 YEARS!!!! This person just now comes out and says they're a girl and were only doing it as a prank. WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!?!?!?!?!? My friend is friends with my sisters back home as well. I called and told my sisters and they both said that God better have mercy on their souls if they ever find this b^tch that has been doing this cruel joke! FÛCKING A§§HOLES!!!

If I had a bullet for every asshole that treated a girl wrong, I would shoot them.

OMG why on earth would someone do something like that and keep it up for 2 years? Holy **** that's just wrong. The only thing I have that's anything close to that is a guy that lived in Chicago, same deal with the internet thing, was going to move here..but we did talk on the phone..and did meet. Later found out he was married.

for 2 years.....but then again did she talk to that person on a phone or just chat room.
you just never know that this person might be a real man but for some reason he had to lie like that. you just never know.
just how can you play with someone like that.. your friend should try to find this person and sue her, the chat room holds a log file of peoples IP address dont they?
i know some do

Huh? What did i do?

Ok, my first question is why? Why the HELL did she do that?

My second question is; why for such a long time? If she is a girl and she sensed that your friend was starting to get interested in her, WHY THE HELL DIDN'T SHE STOP IT?
I am not sure whether or not they talked every day, I am assuming they did. Think about this 365 x 2... that's how many days that b*** wasn't able to come clean.

I don't know if she had fun or not, that I sure hope she will feel guilty for the rest of her life.

Well I am going to say it even though I will probably be viewed as an asshole for it.

What this person did was wrong and there is no excuse for it but why did your friend put so much faith into an online relationship as to invest 2 years of her life? It is one thing to meet someone off the net but to start making plans like that without ever actually meating the person is a mistake. She is lucky cause that person could have been some psycho that would have raped and killed her the moment they met.

If you must meet someone on the net do not invest 2 years before you meet them, and when you do finally meet them make it a very public place. It is too easy for someone to hide their real identity over the net.

Don't get me wrong I do feel bad for friend cause no one desearves to be treated like that and have their trust squashed. I hope she will be able to move on soon.

You're right though AUTOBOT. Making plans with someone without even talking on the phone is NOT recommended. I mean, obviously, there was a reason NOT to talk on the phone, when she is a girl. She probably avoided doing that, because she didn't want your friend to realise. I think that talking on the phone or meeting would have been good before making plans about moving.

You can talk through MSN, if you think that it will cost you.

There is a lesson to learn from this though and I hope she did.

Actually..I spoke with her some more, and I guess they did talk on the phone a few times. The girl (that was pretneding to be a guy) doesn't have a high voice and actually does sound kind of manly. So my friend really had no idea. They've exchanged pics and stuff. The girl was using pics from her friend. MY friend had no idea. The real screwed up thing is that my friend told her all kinds of deep personal things, and fully trusted who she thought she was talking to. Talk about really having your head screwed with.

I had a friend who went out with this girl from california (I live in NY), and was talking to her on the phone all the time, saying how much he loved her, and he never met her. When he finally did, he was truly disappointed... moral of the story, online dating could be helpful, but God meat the freaking person first!

I know lots of people who have met online, and they're not all crazy murderers or anything. The person I work with and is sitting next to me right now lived in Ohio, and met someone online from here in Wisconsin. They talked for five years online, and then she moved in with him. They had visited each other on Christmas and stuff like that before she moved in, though. And they are still together.

My cousin just got married last summer to a girl he met online who lived in Europe. They just had a baby a few months ago, too. And she's not crazy either.

One of my good friends I went to school with since 5th grade has been with her boyfriend for two years. They met online and lived like an hour away from each other. Now she lives with his aunt and they are still together and engaged.

I think if you really take the time and precaution into meeting someone online, there's really no problem with it. Yes, there are crazy people out there, but there are also normal people like most of us here.

That's too bad about your friend, though. I am pretty sure you couldn't really do anything, like sue her or anything. That really sucks.

Okay, now that I have been thinking about this, what was this other girl thinking?

Is your friend sure that she was talking to the person that she was the whole two years? I know this sounds messed up, but think about this.

Taking the time to talk, write, e-mail, send pics, and all that for two years?!?! Why would someone do that for so long and pretend the whole time? Why would someone waste their time like that? A practical joke - okay maybe that would last for a couple weels, but two years?? Here's what I think might really of happened:

1) the girl-"guy" is really a lesbian and liked this friend of yours and so had to pretend they were a guy so that your friend would like them too

2) the person, who really is a guy, has a girlfriend not online and this girlfriend that is by him found out what was going on with this "other girl" online and went online pretending to be him and told your friend he was a girl so that your friend would leave her boyfriend alone. I know it sounds crazy, but I really don't think someone would go on for two years pretending to be a boy when they weren't, it would just be annoying after awhile you'd think?

good point... I don't think that it was actually done as a joke, unless the other person is a REAL loser to waste so much time.

scenario 3)
the guy was scared to death of meeting 2kLo's friend because he is affraid of commitment, so tell s the girl he's a girl. Hurts her badly, but he is free from any form of commitment. some ppl freak out when they hear that magical phrase with the three words...

No..it was definitly done as a joke. Why it went on for 2 years...no idea. Some people are just really messed up in the head like that, and get their jollies off faking people out, or hurting them. I'm a pacifist at heart, but when someone hurts my friends...then they feel my rage to the utmost highest level. My friends are my family...and no one messes with them.

i just don't know if someone could do that for two years! and why did they all of a sudden stop?

you think that person would have atleast some sort of attachment to someone they talked to for two years? Was this kind of like a real close relationship, like were they kinda internet boyfriend/girlfriend or whatever? Maybe they weren't as serious as I am thinking they were. HMMMMMM??

Let's say I had those bad intentions too, I don't think I will be able to keep it up like that for 2 years. 2 years is a long time...

I wonder if that girl misses Josh's friend, in the sense of missing talking to her...
